Gloves under/over cuffs, chicken or egg etc????

After purchasing my new winter gloves a dilemma hit me that is troubling me and keeping me awake at night (well not really, but you know what I mean!)

Should winter gloves be worn under or over the cuff of a waterproof jacket?
My old gloves were clearly overs but new ones just as easily unders. Train of thought is by wearing under then water can't roll down arms in to gloves but if worn over then water can be blown up the sleeve of the jacket.
Now I may be overthinking this but what is considered correct? This is coming from a seasoned all-weather rider so can't understand why it hasn't troubled me before

I do under cuffs. My jacket has velcro straps and they seems to be able to keep rain out and more rain seems to run down the sleeves on balance.

Over, stops the wind going up your sleeves, also better from a protection point of view.

With my textiles i always wear the gloves under the cuff. The fasteners on the cuff of the jacket stop the wind getting up so better to let the rain run off the cuff of the jacket rather than drain into the glove and have 2 swimming pools

And previous two replies demonstrate why 'storm' cuffs are great.

The inner part tucks inside the glove cuff, to stop the cold wind going up your sleeve, the outer goes over the cuff to stop rain filling your glove.

Unfortunately, few manufacturers really do this well. One thing is that once you have one glove sorted, you need a fastener/adjuster that can be done securely by a gloved hand.

And that is why (over-thinking?) I would put the right glove on first, so that would be easier for the less-dextrous left hand to do up the right.

I have tried both - my normal way is over the cuff but do see logic in under now. My A* jacket does have strong velcro cuffs so will persevere and see if I can get in to the habit.

Lol, this very subject came up the other day, my lad is doing his Mod 2 at the moment and was out in the pouring rain all day on an MT07, he was grumbling that his water proof gloves...werent till I pointed out he had them over his cuffs letting the water drain into them, he has since changed to the other way and reports dry hands....
I do think it depends onwhat your wearing tho as theres no way I could get my gloves under my leathers....or over my Textiles, as Horse says, quality stuff has a storm inner cuff for the best of both worlds

This got me thinking and the only suit I can remember having this feature, and I've had a few half-decent winter suits, is an old Frank Thomas one that I probably wore for about 60000 miles and was great!

Best I ever had (actually, three of them, including one for £10 from the BMF Show) was the ProTek Elite.

Upside: really easy to use. Inners were really long, outer big enough to go over big winter gloves. Adjuster was like a plastic tie-down buckle on a strap - really easy to use one-handed.

Downside: all that outer meant it was bulky.

The Elite was a superb winter jacket: completely waterproof, very warm (foil/foam/thinsulate liner), full armour (back, coccyx, shoulders, elbows). But after they launched it we had three hot summers and mild winters

But (like me) hardly stylish

Rukka kit has a storm cuff, at least the ones I looked at and the one I bought

Doesn't one of the leathers manufacturers make 'paired' suits and boots, so the lower leg goes outside of the boot?

And I have seen (but probably only once) overtrousers with a windproof double cuff arrangement.
