A right now thread
Re: A right now thread
Having a pint of beer, right now and I've noticed it has the crown on it.
Am I drinking racist beer and is the pub racist? Not only racist, but gammony too? Will I now need a square steering wheel?

I'm now pondering as to whether a square steering wheel would even be a steering wheel or a steering square....

"Relaxing at home" while waiting for son to let me know he is on the correct train to Lyme Regis where he is staying for two weeks for his uni project.
Daughter is writing her penultimate A Levels Psychology exam and should be finished. Fixed her Iphone as it was playing up.
Finished writing assignment, now need to reference it. Much work required!

There's a cracking bakery (a bit poncy and 'artisan', but forgivable in this instance) down the back streets of LR, that knocks up stuff throughout the day, from pastries and croissants in the morning, scones and cakes during the day and bread galore. It can be consumed inside on long, wooden communal tables and is bloody lovely.the_priest wrote: Thu Jun 16, 2022 1:16 pm "Relaxing at home" while waiting for son to let me know he is on the correct train to Lyme Regis

It looks actually too ridiculous to be worthwhile on that stupid rock section the leaders are on.Yorick wrote: Sun Jun 19, 2022 2:16 pm Watching the Red Bull Hard Enduro from Austria with my enduro pals.

If your 2 lead guys can't even remotely get up it, then surely it needs a rethink?

My mates here just said that all these riders started as pro trials riders.
Then moved to hard enduro.

Re: A right now thread
Right now, there is smoke and ash in the air here in the village from a wildfire on the other side of the peninsula at Hisarönü.
We had enough of wildfires last year so could do without this. The wind is pushing the fires south and east and it shouldn't get to us but at the moment the firefighters appear not to have got it/them under control.
Our village fire support organisation has been asked for help so I've been active - I'm on the committee. Hopefully morning will see it all under control, especially when they can get the helicopters working.

Re: A right now thread
Sky thick with smoke again from the fires on the other side of the peninsular.
It was thought they'd got it all under control and were damping down this morning but it has picked up again with fairly strong winds and is out of control. It has been reported that the fires were started deliberately - 3 fires started all around the same time yesterday evening which have merged into one big blaze. It's not hot enough for fires to start spontaneously like last July. Three men are being sought.
Some people have been evacuated, roads into the area are closed and the forestry and fire brigades are struggling. Usually when I can't see the hills to the south it's because of low cloud and rain. It's a lovely day but I can't see the hills.

Re: A right now thread
It's been pretty bad tbh.
We weren't too bothered in Turunç as even if it had come our way there's very little left to burn so it would have burned itself out.
News this evening is that it was started deliberately, one man has been arrested. Our village society has provided some assistance but not a lot was needed. What has been good is the army turned up to assist so our teams weren't needed.

Just finished shovelling, barrowing, tipping, raking, levelling, rolling, raking, levelling and rolling 2 ton of topsoil onto the back garden which isn’t bad given the soil didn’t turn up until just before 1pm.
Next step is check measurements, order turf and the lay it once it arrives. Hopefully that’ll be in the next 2-3 days

Safety documentation checked, proof read a colleagues guidance notes for our new starters and now chilling out waiting for my burgers to cook.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

North terminal Gatwick, on the way home. Popped over with M to take her Mum out to Turkey for her 80th birthday.
To say she was surprised to see us last Thursday is a bit of an understatement. She's in for another shock in 10 days time when M's brother, niece and their partners turn up at M's.
