Wife decided she wanted a flip up lid.

She tried to buy one five years ago and didn't like any of them, she hoped thing had moved on.

Her problem is she wanted a flip up that wasn't any heavier than a normal lid, bit of a holy grail really.

So we went to Leeds to Sportsbikeshop and J&S (they're next door to each other).

Anyway, after looking at laods of helmets we came home with one of these...

It's 1550g, so a teeny bit heavier than her Arai Chaser, but it flips up and the flip goes over the back of the helmet, so the weight when flipped up is at the back not over the front, if that makes sense.

It's pretty premium feeling, comes with a clear and a dark visor, a little keyring with an allen key to change the visor, a nice bag, some silver stickers for France, some foam inserts to change the thickness of the cheek pads.

It's also got embroidery on the chin strap to say it's No. 387 of a limited special edition.

Christ - are they still selling Roof Helmets? I wanted a flip face and bought a Roof in 2012 ish. It was the worst made helmet I had ever seen - drafty, when closed, noisy and one of those that started off comfortable, - and 15 mins into you ride you wanted to rip you head off.
It lasted one ride before eBay beckoned.

But they sent the wrong colour ways ( I want the mainly black one) and it has a really weird fit - big shoulders, wide hips and narrow waist! Waiting to see what the correct colour one fits like - but despite their reputation , it's probably getting returned.

So bought this as a comparison :

However it does fit beautifully and seems much better put together that the Lindstrands/Halvarssons jacket

Needed a new pair of boots for work as bike boots are useless and wear out with a few months as the soles are not designed for walking in. I have been wearing hiking boots but even wearing them out in 12 months which is probably down to the cheaper brand i had.

Decided to go back to what i know and got some Altberg Defender boots as used by our wonderful armed services .......nice to have a decent solid boot again as not worn military boots in a few years

I have a pair of those for dog walking - brand new they were - and not a lot of money of an internet auction site

New summer gloves. My existing summer gloves were bought back in VD days when I bought my Bonnie T100. They were originally black, but the back of the glove has now faded to pale grey.

Today I've picked up a pair of bullit jeans, a pair of Cardo Spirit intercoms and an Oxford helmet lock.

The jeans because they look better and fit better than my previous pair of red route ones and they were only £79.

The intercoms to replace my aging G4's. The speakers are bigger and louder and there is great smartphone integration.

The helmet lock, not for helmets but to thread through the arms of jackets if we want to take a walk away from the bike and leave them picked to it, the lids will be in the top box.

Had it a few weeks now and is pretty good for what I need it for. Clearly not a jacket you'd want a big off in but does the job for low speed local trips.

Decided to give my OG Hein Gericke a Nikwax freshen up and reproof as it was looking a little sorry for itself, it's come up bob on, if you didn't look for the repair on the arm from when I went tarmac surfing a few years ago you'd not know it was donkeys years old.

Anywho, come to find it has OG hard as nails HG rubber armour, after all this time and at least one off I don't think it owes me any money, so time for a refresh.

2 are from M&P, so risk lessened / mitigated that they'll be knock offs.

unless it's from a confirmed verifiable retailer who also happens to be on ebay

The other is a gamble, but seeing as my day job includes identifying fraudulent use of CE & UKCA marks, and I'm pretty good at it if I do say so myself, then I give myself a better than fair chance of being able to tell if its pukka or not.

Been a bit spendy but a new Alpinestars Boulder GoreTex jacket has arrived. What a lovely, lovely piece of kit. Thermal liner, more vents than you can shake a stick at, a second front zip with top to bottom vented section for really warm days. It came with a D30 back protector but as I use the Tech 5 air vest I’ve taken that out to stop it being too hunch back.

Sizing is a bit Italian, I’m 5’6 and 11.5st and got the XL to allow a bit of airbag expansion if ive got a fleece on and the thermal layer, really wouldn’t want the L as that would be rather trim.

GoreTex got tested on its first outing as it fell down on the commute to work today.
