By what you've posted over the last couple of years, she's bright, sparky, has a good work ethic and a social conscience.gremlin wrote: Wed Sep 28, 2022 1:06 pm It's the Gremlinette's 18th birthday today.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I went to see some rehab friends today. Back to the last centre to see two of them (and the physios/nurses etc) and drop of cakes to them all. Spent Monday and Tuesday making Bakewell tarts, flapjacks and ginger cake for all, then some savoury tarts for my two friends there, squash & feta cheese and red onion & goats cheese - mostly cos the food there is shocking!!
Was awesome because both are doing well. One should be going home in a couple of weeks (but needs a screw taking out of his leg cos it's rubbing on a ligament) and the other still has a long and drawn out rehab to go through, but he's way better than last time I saw him. Had some good chats and Pierre reckons my French has improved - not sure how as have barely spoken any in the last month!!
Then onto see the friend from the first rehab centre. He had all the metal removed from his leg a couple of weeks ago and he's doing so well.
Huge grins all round
I'm knackered as a lot of driving and in pouring rain. But still grinning at how well they are all doing
Just need to catch up with the other one from rehab (massive issues with the scar from amputation, so he's home waiting for that to heal so he can get the prosthetic leg and start walking !)
Just hoping the temperature drops now and it snows lots over night

The doc has put me on 2 gentle tablets for high blood pressure and 1 for high cholesterol.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
You have to PAY for that stuff? Phew.
On a tangent, and I hope this bit is acceptable. ..he's put you on simvastatin for your cholesterol. That's often the "beginner" statin, cheaper than most, but it can have side effects which might be a problem. In my case, I became aware after a few weeks that I felt "neutered" - best way to describe it. Zero interest in sex. Unusual for me; tho I'm not an uncontrollably horny sort of bloke it had all disappeared, mentally and physically. Testicles had become small, soft and squidgy, no interest in wimmin, no matter how gorgeous.
I had a look at the data sheet, and there is a mention of "sexual difficulties". I had a chat with the Dr, we agreed to change (now on atorvastatin), and within a week everything was back to normal. Rejoicing all round. Well, me and Mrs W anyway.
Something to bear in mind.

I know someone in England but and the border of Wales who is registered at a doctors in Wales. She drives over for her free scripts. I dare say a few 1000 others do the same. Probably the English Scottish border also. How much is a prescription now?

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
£9.35 per single time, but if you have multiple prescriptions you'tr better off getting a pre pay cerificate for around a £10 a month which covers you for everything.Felix wrote: Fri Sep 30, 2022 12:07 amI know someone in England but and the border of Wales who is registered at a doctors in Wales. Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Glad you posted that. One of the many tablets I have for breakfast is simvastatin, I put my lowering of interest down to other things but that’s got me thinking. Might give the quacks a bell later to ask if I can change tablets.Wossname wrote: Thu Sep 29, 2022 8:54 pm You have to PAY for that stuff? Phew.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
You can pay yearly or buy three months at a time. If I can get my wife to renew all of hers just before it ends then we can squeeze four months out of £30.Felix wrote: Fri Sep 30, 2022 12:17 amAye that was my next questionTaipan wrote: Fri Sep 30, 2022 12:12 am

Never mind any pain prescription or whatever else is wrong. No wonder so many folk flip as they wont be takin any meds due to not being able to afford it. I presume your £10 a month is also payable when you dont need anything. I quite like that idea but obviously free is better

It's my understanding that statins, whatever name, should be taken at night before you go to bed for them to do what they do.
You could always read the small print that is in every packet to be sure.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
A doc put me on statins and then a few weeks later another doc at the same surgery said they wouldn't help me at all, sometimes it is worth doing your own research to check drugs do what doctors think they do.
