They look massive in the pictures, but IRL they're quite petite. The later X is the one to have as it has proper adjustable suspension.

I take it you equate an agricultural engine/gearbox with styling cues from the 30's as character or soul or whatever it is that people assign to inanimate objects.

Damn you for that 'cannot be unseen' image.
Re the OP,I'm in the camp (ha) of liking to look at some HDs,but know very well they don't supply what I want in a motorcycle...today anyway!
Mr.Longbeard's bike is a fine looking thang, but I've never ridden it,so can't comment on anything else.
I'm not a hater,if anything I detest the GS beemer style of bike a lot more than any other. I can say categorically I'll never own one of those horrid, fake, multi lighted, mudplugging barnacles.

Of all the Harleys I've seen that one is the most like my concept of a HD I could get on with. It's not ridiculously long and low and has got fairly sensible bar and footrest positions.

No, no and yes I think I would.
Fancied owning a Roadking a few times .. A two up cruiser with my better half on a summers evening makes it feel appealing. Reality is, she works evenings so that's as far as I've got to owning one.

Re: Harleys; have you? Did you? Would you?
I'm a Beemer fan, having had a couple of old Boxers BITD, but I swore I'd never own a GS, a mate persuaded me to have a test ride on a 1200 and I hated it. But when the Himalayan started fucking about, I realised I needed a big trailie to replace it and the only thing about was a very clean 1150GS a mate was flogging.Skub wrote: Tue Nov 29, 2022 11:23 am

I'll admit I didn't click right away, it took a couple of days but now I wish I'd bought one 20 years ago, it's the plain Jane version without any touratech crap apart from the handguard extensions and it has a Remus and it's chipped. It's just immensely practical and easy to live with.
I don't think I'd like anything newer and you're getting into the how much power does a trailie need argument.
Re: Harleys; have you? Did you? Would you?
My only experience of one is hiring an 883 Sportster to travel around the States for a bit, ironically stopping in at Bonneville for Speed Week.
Didn't do a whole lot for me, and is obviously only a baby Harley anyway, though I was surprised and impressed by the 60mpg we got. Less impressed or surprised by the 103mph top speed (indicated) on a multi-mile stretch of Utah desert road, chin on tank

Yeah Ferrari do actually make good cars, comparison is not valid.
Apple on the other hand make terrible cars.

Apple? Used to be. Not exactly cool when every pensioner in the land seems to have an iPad though. They're more Saga than cutting edge.

(People who know diddly squat about a thing but think something's cool may or may not be the best subset of a population to reference as a guide to what's actually good - or isn't).

Reckon I could put a few miles on this, on a shiny summers day.
