I'm trying to get you to see a different perspective. You try and change our opinion, I try and change yours. That's a discussion. If we all just agreed it would be pointless. You already know my views and have already berated me for sharing them, there's no need to goad me into this discussion in all my posts.

"Years ago", we were nowhere near the extraordinary capacity for these supercomputers. Just running ChatGPT for a world audience requires staggering amounts of energy and cooling. According to Musk, these data centres are "unmissable" from space because the heat generated lights them up like a beacon.
Mmmm, what are you actually up to in that there London, Screwd?

I don't think it is a case of negativity vs positivity, and more a case of being able to decipher between truths and lies. Most people just seem to accept everything as truth, because questioning things you are told are fact requires a bit of common sense logical thinking which some people are either incapable of or just can't be bothered to do, life is too short to question everything i agree but some of us just cannot turn a blind eye and follow the crowd when we can see what is going on.weeksy wrote: Tue May 16, 2023 6:29 amOf course.... but on my planet, not everyone is instantly looking to take over the earth and destroy it... You have a very negative view of the world and people in it. It's a trait of yours, you only see the negative not the positive. Perhaps I should have stopped there. The rest is fluff.
They don't have capitalism on your planet?![]()
There is also the case IMO that a lot of people do not like the truth, they would rather bumble along thinking everything is fine until it isn't then kick up skint when shit starts to affect them!
If you didn't have people like myself and screwed who seem to be able to see through the ball shit we are fed by the capitalist so called leaders then i think you would see the world going into a very much more negative situtation than it is!

Even ChatGPTs creator reckons AI needs some regulation.

Re: Is chat GPT a danger to humanity?
Most of us have a well developed bullshit detector, few of us believe politicians of any stripe, but we also recognise that most problems are caused by fuck-up and unexpected consequences rather than any conspiracy. Do IGAS about AI? Not really, I can remember back in my youth being promised all sorts of wonderful stuff, unlimited energy from fusion, flying cars, a 2 day working week because computers and robots were going to do everything for us, with us humans just enjoying our leisure. I expect AI to be at least as prophetic as those predictions.Greenman wrote: Tue May 16, 2023 10:52 am

Will all this AI clean my pool?
Or will it make my beer fridge fail?
These are questions we need to know.

This is what I was thinking but couldn't work out how to articulate, at least not as succinctly.Cousin Jack wrote: Tue May 16, 2023 9:15 pm Most of us have a well developed bullshit detector, few of us believe politicians of any stripe, but we also recognise that most problems are caused by fuck-up and unexpected consequences rather than any conspiracy.
There's a difference between not seeing lies, problems or downsides and letting your entire reaction be defined by them.

Re: Is chat GPT a danger to humanity?
Will the AI systems be able to work out commercially practical fusion power generation for the immense power required to run their systems or will they run out of available power before they get to the solution?
I also wondered if the Microsoft AI interface could be in the form of a talking paper clip, for old times sake.

Is AI used in predictive text algorithms'?
If it is, I think we're safe for a couple of generations.

Re: Is chat GPT a danger to humanity?
BT got rid of people and moved CS stuff to India. That was pants, and they had to rehire CS people. I expect in 5 years time they will be rehiring again when they recognise how pants AI is.Ant wrote: Thu May 18, 2023 12:54 pm Well AI is no danger to you I suppose, so long as you don't work for BT, because BT are replacing you with AI.
Several other strategic errors that BT have made, I really wouldnt use them as an example of stuff.

I stumbled upon it by joint virtues of being a software engineer of about 35 years of experience and an observer of dumb arse assumptions like yours about AI. If you want a discussion then wind your rudeness in, tone down your absolute certainty and pull back on your paranoia.Screwdriver wrote: Thu May 18, 2023 6:02 pmA brilliant observation I assume you stumbled into by accident.dern wrote: Thu May 18, 2023 11:28 am "Is chat GPT a danger to humanity?" - No

Yes, there are a lot of people who will believe anything and everything they see on the internet. Paradoxically in light of your attempt at a mindless insult, that is one of the problems of AI; even now when it is still under control from human input. It can generate "stories" details and facts (aka psyops) which crate a convincing trail of deep fake evidence.
Since when were Mexicans "far right extremists"? well when it suits the narrative, plant a few "posts" purporting to be from <random Mexican> claiming to be inspired by "far right" ideology then pin the <mass shooting> in this case, on that.
One of the problems with planting fake stories or using bots on places like Twitter, for example, is that a statistical analysis can reveal anomalies in the posting(s) which point to a campaign of disinformation being made by automated software.
The other thing to remember is that it doesn't matter when the truth emerges later because the damage is done. So, all you need to do is somehow convince a large proportion of less intelligent people that <Trump is involved in Russian collusion> or < the Hunter Biden laptop is Russian disinformation> or even <Hilary Clinton emails were hacked by Russia> and the mob turns. Later when it transpires all those things were FBI/CIA psyops (sponsored by Hilary Clinton!) it doesn't matter, the deed is done.
How does AI and ChatGPT fit into that sort of scenario? Easy. When I said "I want a porn film starring Kylie Minogue when she was fit" 1. I probably would watch that (for research purposes) and 2. A powerful AI will be able to manufacture that sort of footage, in full HD if not 3D. In fact it could probably make a decent job of it right now. Goodness knows what it will be capable of in six months and when/if it becomes self-aware and a sentient being all bets are off. No one knows what happens next.
Sooner or later such stories will start to emerge. My money is on "Trump caught with his pants down in an elevator" (the Holy Grail of internet memes). Full video, dodgy quality, backed up by cctv records but weeks later denounced as deep fake. So yes, dumb fucks being fooled by "internet" disinformation. You put your finger right on it despite not knowing what the fuck you are talking about.
