I really need to sort out access to the Premium Bonds thingy! Need to call them I think. Pretty sure they'd have mailed me if I'd won, and I have very very little in there, but, you never know!! LOL

They're a pretty helpful bunch. I've been on the phone to them every week for the past 4, I haven't got access to my online account, there's something strange going on, they can log in, but I can't. All the people I've spoken to, haven't seen an issue like this before. Getting to the stage now, where the only option may be to close the account and open a new one.

Mine's simple in that I had the app but it stopped working over here and it wasn't high on my priorites to check (cos, I'm not gonna win!! LOL) but then I couldn't remember how to log into the website. So just need to sort that out I guess.

I have a horrible feeling that I had it set to post cheques rather than go into the bank (set it up a LONG time ago!) so they may well be in a pile at my friends house if I have won anything

On my account I recieve a email on the rare occasions that I've won something & the money goes directly in to my account a few days later.
However it doesn't happen often..

£50 landed in my bank account last night.

I think I'm going to shove some more £'s in. Part of the attraction is it's tax free and the £1000 cap on interest and dividends is a pain. My 'plucky little portfolio' of income shares that I run, just to keep my hand in, eats that. Shame they don't count the losses against dividends (eg Vodaphone pay a pretty good dividend but the share price hasn't defied gravity, it's defined it )

We have the full monty in ours, but this year we have had just over £2K, so getting a min of 5% atm.
Last year it was £2.3k in total.

Oh, absolutely.

All for using tax effective options but there's a £20k limit and I'd rather use that for guaranteed returns. The share stuff is just for fun really. I used to trade a lot more but always found it was feast or famine tbh. Same with funds, some would do well for a few years then they wouldn't - I don't think I did much better than trackers over the long run when dealing charges were taken into account.

TBF the only shares/funds stuff I have is my pension and savings accounts I don't plan to touch for years/decades. Investments are indeed feast/famine but generally only when viewed in the short term

Yup. The other thing I found is that your attitude to it all changes on retirement. Life's a bit different when you've got a slab of salary coming in each month. When you haven't you get a bit more defensive with your hard earned.

I would add from bitter experience that even with a long term approach you still need to be a bit brutal at times and cull the weaklings, taking a loss on the chin. It's a common approach, particularly if you're picking growth shares to hang on thinking things won't fall further or even buying in again (catching a falling knife) to reduce the % loss and/or hoping things go back up. Long term most of my best buys were the most boring ones.

The FSCS 1 year bonds are getting very close to 6% too. I might bung a load into some of them in the next few days.

You can get a 5% ISA for 2 years from a couple of high street banks too now.
