Diverting water from an outdoor sink or use on the garden

I have an outdoor sink - and old stainless pot wash sink. I now get used far more than I ever expected.

The wast water just flows into the drain. I would like to somehow be able to divert the grey water to use on the garden. Can anyone give me a sensible solution where most of the water can so via a hose (the plot slopes away from the sink).
Any ideas?

Can you stick a collection container with a Hozelock compatible tap under it? eg an old homebred keg.

What sort of volume of water are you putting through it?

I looked at something similar a while back and read that reusing grey water on the garden was a bad idea, I guess it depends how grey that water is.

Hosepipe ban rules are worth a read for specifics, last year I found out it was ok for me to carry on using a hosepipe inside the house from the mains tap and I could use a hosepipe outside as long as it wasn't connected directly to the supply.
This was so I could recycle aquarium water into butts and then refill it.

Never thought about it other than 'hosepipe ban' = 'hosepipe must not be connected to mains supply'. It would be pretty stupid to ban 'em if they're connected to eg rainwater butts. Less confusing for nosy neighbours if they're just not allowed I suppose.

I could use my submersible pump to pump bath water out onto the garden or in to storage and obvs people would take the p if that was OK. Fill the bath, hop in, hop out, hey presto grey water. So I can see why they might include piping grey water around in the ban.

It's just from washing boots, bike helmets, the dog, outdoor stuff - so not heavily polluted. But it would be better on the tomatoes than down the drain.

The only diverters I have are house drain sized for diverting into a water butt. They aren't switchable).

The reason I thought of homebrew kegs was because I recently bought a replacement tap for a water butt - with a more Hozelock compatible nozzle - and it was advertised as suitable for homebrew beer kegs. If you could cut a homebrew barrel down to size to fit under, the crud would settle below the outlet (you always had to tilt them to get the last of the brew out ) and you could connect a hose running down the slope to a bigger container perhaps.

You can also get a fitting for the drain with a tee-off (they do them for feeding in condensate from boilers so it could be tweaked to divert water out maybe).

Following on from this suggestion - I may just add a long piece of waste pipe and a connector to get it as far as the lawn
