That how I felt about my Factory when I had it, hence sold it to buy something I'd use more and wasnt so precious over. Friend I sold it to got sideswiped at a roundabout 3 weeks later and got it written off!

One thing that I needed to do was that the dash was cracked and the buttons didn’t work. It turned out that the buttons were small plastic levers that pushed down on small microswitches and these levers had small cracks in them meaning they bent rather than press the switches down. My guess is that they get weaker over time and then they get pressed harder and harder until they go completely.

I repaired the switch levers using superglue and baking powder (look it up if you don’t know about this) and they now in the right place and strong again. They work too, pretty rare on these bikes.

I cut out the ‘glass’ as you can’t replace this bit and can’t get hold of the case. I then ground down the case to fit a new piece of 2mm polycarbonate that I cut to shape.

Really happy with the results but despite being careful and following the right procedure, the odometer reset to zero. This is a common thing on the bike and has happened once before in it’s life. I know the mileage so it’s not an issue.

It works much better if you use thin superglue.

Fuck it, death or glory

Cleaned this ready for sale on Thursday but couldn't live with the paint blisters on the tank. There were two, one the size of the end of your thumb and one slightly bigger. I didn't want to respray the tank as I'd have needed to do the whole fairing and it's not mint enough for that kind of outlay and I couldn't find a matching tank that didn't have the same problem. This happens a lot to these bike and also to a lot of stuff from that time with plastic tanks. So I made the decision to cut the bubbles out so they didn't get bigger or, worse, crack and take out the other paint. I then made some tank grips in grey/silver 2mm eva foam and fitted those. I've used this stuff on the blade on track and it's grippy, closed cell so it doesn't absorb water and doesn't knacker your leathers. I'm pretty happy with it and will let any buyer know what I've done so they can make up their own mind what to do about it.

I've also updated the for sale thread. And that's the end of this project, if it sells that is.
