There's no other type of thing for me... day wear is cycling wear, is going out wear, is staying in wear... It's all the same sock. If i go out to pub i wear boots, so the socks can't be seen anyway
I bought M&S socks for years but, like their shoes, they've gone down the tubes. In fact all the socks in TK Maxx and M&S seem to come from the same shoddy mills. They last about 3 months at the most.

Folk don't pay enough attention to socks. They're quite complicated things. Most of us could knock up some sort of body covering approximating to a pair of pants and a t-shirt but they'd have to wind strips of fabric around their feet to approximate to a sock.
