Cleaning spray??

Not sure that this fits in this section, but not sure where it fits better!

Is there a spray I can use to coat the bike and then use a hose to wash 'most' of the dirt off with the spray?

I have no where up here to sort the bike pre winter and so will head down to a jet wash place in the valley. (I know, keep the jet wash spray away from the axle bolts and other important stuff!!)

It's not going to anything like a Weeksy clean! I just want the most of it clean enough to ACF50 it (cos I found some of that in a box!!) so that, on the off chance of parking it somewhere that is accessible in the winter and there being any dry sunny spells, I can ride it without too much concern!!

Was planning to persuade a friend to let me go to his place to do a proper clean (cos he does that - cars not bikes, but I reckon it will transfer!) But they are in the UK for a couple of weeks and I'm not 100% sure I can get down to meet up when they get back!!!

Another vote for sdoc100. Great stuff. You'd still need to use a brush for the really sticky bits but it works well. It's not as aggressive as muc off and gives a better finish.

On the rare occasion I must inflict water on my bikes,sdoc100 is the one for me too. Muc off is crap and can fuc off,it leaves hard to remove streaks.

Sdoc100 is definitely the best I've used, it's expensive but works best. It still doesn't spray on/wash off proper dirty though IME. It doesn't loosen the dirty but you still need to wash the bike IMO.

I'm currently using Oxford Mint, it's ok.

Probably expensive and a week delivery time, but maybe worth it as there isn't anywhere easy to do this up here and I kinda want something simple for basic dirt - spray on wash off!!

Battery - Internet (although have now been told of a couple of decent mechanics in the valley who will probably advise more and will be able to buy more easily!)

Mechanic - money (lacking in this still!)

Chocolate - available in the valley but about 3 times the price, and whilst I do love Cadburys, it isn't worth paying a premium for!! (And I don't exactly 'need' to eat it!!) and it's soooooo much cheaper to stock up on visits back or order through anyone coming to visit!!




On the finding a mechanic - a mate's partner is going to come and have a look and is extra happy if I ride over to theirs for him to have a proper look sometime (comfort of his own workshop etc!)

The main issue is finances (and lack of confidence). If I still lived in Bristol, there are half a dozen or more people who could/would pop round and help me. But as I've barely ridden in 6+ years, I haven't made the sort of bike friends I had over there, so son't have anyone to shout to for help (well, a couple but they are hours and hours away!!). All the actual mechanics are a minimum of 30 mins away down the mountain, and not cheap!!

Slowly building up a (very) small network of bike friends so by next summer, hopefully I'll have more confidence and also more bike mates that will help me

I've used a few different motorcycle cleaning sprays and can't say I've noticed much difference. I buy whatever one is on a special deal at the time and I usually buy 5Ls and use my own spray bottles.

Rhino Goo is a good one and I'm only posting this because I like saying "Rhino Goo". It worked well from what I remember. Currently using Muc Off.

2 things I would say.

With all of these sprays IMO you need to agitate them to really get a clean bike. Can you take soft brush and microfiber cloth with you? It'll make a big difference. S100 is sprayed on a dry bike, most of the others on a wet bike.

Don't let the sprays dry on the bike and don't spray them on a hot bike. I used W5 Citrus spray on the plastics of my 690 when I rode through the worst swarm of flies I've ever seen, literally thousands of them all over the bike. My first thought was quick hose and some W5 then rinse off when I got home to stop them going hard. This worked fine for the flies but a little of the over spray went on the engine case and it took a LOT of elbow grease to remove the white streaks off of it where the spray hit the hot engine case and stained.

I got this last year, spray bottle from the range or somewhere and works just the same as all the others. You can buy all different fancy colours but ime, they're all the same. Wet bike, spray on, soft brush around and hose off. Works good enough for me.

It will almost certainly be hot when I get to the wash place

I think I will start with the option that Weeksy suggested and use the foamy thingy at the jet wash place!! But I'll take a smaller brush to deal with my kakhandedness (the brush they have is HOOOOGE!) and then gently jet wash the suds away and see what I need to work harder on!!

Local Motorcross shop sells a Kawasaki green cleaner, spray on and wash off then you use this white stuff that goes on and is left to dry
