Off to Leigh-on-Sea for a NYE (afternoon) drink. As previously said, I'm meeting up with an old mate I haven't seen since before covid lockdowns. A couple of other invites went out and now there's 5 of us plus other halfs/halves meeting up! Looking forward to it, although they're mad footie fans and Gooners too and guess whose playing whilst we're there! :D

Watching an otter, aka a weasel with good pr, larking about in the bay at the end of the garden.

Fishing looks to be good.

In the Enduro WhatsApp group, one of the lads is saying it's currently -18 where he is skiing in Norway. He's freezing and boot buckles have frozen.

We're all taking the piss cos it's 25c here :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Driving the wife's car.

When I got a new job I gave the wife my car as I needed some thing more economical for the commute.

Today she insisted we used it to go shopping as it needed filling up with go-go juice. As I was pulling on to the drive the check engine light came on. Bugger.

I reset the light (Torque on Android is aces) it was the Bank 1 NOx sensor. Then decided to give it an Italian tune up to see if the error re-occurred.

I took it down the by-pass in sports mode at 130mph between roundabouts. After spending the last year driving a 190bhp diesel I'd kinda forgotten how hilarious a moderately fast (306bhp) car is.

Woke up to the news that actor Ian Ziering had been "attacked by the gang of bikers in Hollywood". Was hoping it was because the twunt pronounces his name as "Iron".
Expecting to see video of him being bludgeoned by the Mongols, Vago's or HA etc, I was amused to see it was 3 kids on mini-bikes.

I have been commuting in a 75bhp Renault Clio 1.2 for the last two years. I can only dream of a190bhp diesel.

I was down south Wales picking up a 1.6 Diesel Citroen DS3. Only 90BHP but its quick. and fun on the back roads. Sat at 75/80 all the way home back to East Lothian and a loony moment at 110. It only used 3/4 a tank of fuel and gave me 48.9MPG. Fantastic little car what apparently has a 120bhp version.

Selective editing by US media cut off the beginning of the incident. They started it as the moron in the blue hoodie attempts a sweep & gets it so wrong he almost took out his buddy & ended it as the fat bitch in the green helmet runs herself into the side of a car.

You may or may not know this but the term 'Iron' is old cockney rhyming slang for 'poof', as in 'Iron hoof' = 'poof'. The late great Bob Hoskyns uses this term a few times in The Long Good Friday.

Ian seems to be an usual name in the US, I met an American Ian once, he probably it "I an". It's easy to see how you could confuse it with Iron.

I've been talking a lot with my mates son that had the bike accident back in September. It's helped him to talk to a fellow 'spazz' (although his injuries may well be longer lasting than mine, but he's appreciated having someone to talk to that gets the recovery process.

Anyway, a bit before Christmas he was struggling to deal with the insurance peeps etc, so I pointed him towards White Dalton Solicitors.

Well, they've appointed one of the partners to his case, who actually drove to Somerset today to meet with J and go see the crash site.

He's told J that even on a 50/50 he'll get a reasonable amount (over 500k) and if it goes totally in his favour, it will be more than double that.

It's not insignificant to him, but TBH I'm just really really happy for him that he's got something positive to look forward to from all this shit.

Also, there's two witnesses, the one witness behind the car that took him out said that the learner driver had crossed the white line often in the time they were following and the one behind J said that his head "might" have been over the white line.

Apparently the legal biker said that there was virtually no way that he could have been in that position on that road at the speeds suggested (J is very experienced and the driver behind him had said that he'd been consistent and not speeding when they saw him). So that is also really positive :D :D

Something good for the evening :D :D
