A copy of Spiderman 1 just sold for £1 million. I had a copy but my mother cleared out a lot of my stuff when I left home.
(I had the first 4 or 5 issues).
Admittedly the auctioned copy was 'mint' but a 'fine' one went for £0.5M a couple of years ago.

On that note, i used to own Steve Heighways shirt from the 1977 European Cup final win. My old man used to do work for Joe Fagan and was given the shirt. Where, when and how it's gone... i have no idea.. I owned a few other classics too, again, i don't know where or when they went.Count Steer wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 6:58 am A copy of Spiderman 1 just sold for £1 million. Cars, mines fucked this morning on the coldest day of course!
Handbrake is stuck on. I tried to drive it off the drive with no luck at all. Handbrake level all floppy with no resistance at all!
I have managed to walk in the 2 miles to my morning school almost literally arriving with frosticles on my nose as it's -5 here today.
Going to contact a few mobile mechanics and hopefully they will take payment in litres of tap water as i don't really have any money to pay for the repairs that will no doubt be astronomical.
Anyone had any experience with mobile mechanics? I can't take it to my normal mechanic as i can't move the car!

If cable, it could be water ingress. I had that with an old Astra. 'Sorted' it by leaving the car running until heat from the exhaust warmed the cable. 'Fix' would be a new cable.

Yeah mobile mechanic bloke just told me this could work. They also advise hitting the caliper with a hammer and screwdriver could release any stuck pads or frozen pads!Horse wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:38 amCable or electric?Greenman wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:33 am Cars, mines fucked this morning on the coldest day of course!

You'll need the special brake hammer.Greenman wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:23 amIf my hammering or warming up plan doesn't fix it i might try that, good idea.DefTrap wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:16 amInsurance? It'll be warm by Sunday... the frost will have gone, so by then you'll know either way.

Before you start
Can you run an extension cable and fan heater to it? If there's water in the cable and it's frozen that could do the trick, might work on the pads/calipers too. It sounds like the cold has caused it so heat may be the solution.

This is true but i need the car for work over next 2 days. I've got 50 miles to and back to a school tomorrow and a meeting with the boss, not really walkable or taxiable either due to cost.weeksy wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:32 am It'll be warm by Sunday... the frost will have gone, so by then you'll know either way.

I might try and find my old super soaker and fill up with hot water and go on a full rambo style super soaker attack on the car...Count Steer wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:32 am Before you startCan you run an extension cable and fan heater to it? spraying it with hot water on something that's likely to crack when it freezes in seconds as it's so cold ?Greenman wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:37 amI might try and find my old super soaker and fill up with hot water and go on a full rambo style super soaker attack on the car...Count Steer wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:32 am Before you startCan you run an extension cable and fan heater to it? I'd get a hair dryer/mini blow-torch thing rather than that matey.

I don't own either of those things. Mine (RingGo) let's me know when there's 10 mins left....do I want to pay more? (I usually need less than 1hr but sometimes can get held up...particularly if it's a docs surgery trip). If you do add time straight away, the clock starts again ie you lose 10 mins AND you pay the 1 hour rate again rather than the reduced rate for 2 hours. Bloody thieves!
PS I think Dorking changed recently so it never costs more on the app than it would cash.![]()
The main gripe is that they use SMS to send you your "running out of time" notice - which both costs you money (you pay for the SMS), AND is not guaranteed to reach you in time (if you are out of signal range... eg in a shop/cinema etc)![]()
