I was talking to a passenger the other morning about snow (weirdly, right? ) - he lives in Paris and when they have a dusting of snow, everything stops, similar to the UK. We were driving on a frosty, not snowy, road and following a truck full of snow being taken somewhere!!

The differences can be regional, not by country. But as Weeksy says, it's what people/councils/areas are used to :D

Q? Do they use salt on French roads? I know they grit a lot and are good at clearing snow etc and that they insist on chains in places but I'm starting to think salt use is a bit local to here.

The UK gets cold every year but the media react as though cold weather is something new.

-3°C, Sunny and a gentle breeze? Yup. It's been a really nice day. Had a decent yomp this morning, sat on a bench in the sunshine and ate lunch. The cold meant the ground wasn't soggy underfoot and the sandy bits were quite firm too. Quite a few people out and about. Got barked at by a pair of tail-wagging dachsunds behind a gate who thought we must be taking them walkies. Met them later with someone who actually was taking them walkies. :D The oak trees are starting to show signs of life and snowdrops are flowering. Hints that winter doesn't really last long.

Yeah, that sort of thing makes me happy. A nice day all round.

Last time I mentioned to Mrs. D I thought the Met Office were overstating the weather with their Red "danger to life" warning, 4 people died due to bad weather.

Just sayin'.

I think they do.

I know that in my first season I was told we couldn't use salt on the steps as we're in a national park area.

However, I have quite a few French friends that have commented about salt damage to vehicles, so I'd say yes. Equally, it might be regional, but up here, I doubt the roads would be drivable without salt (or something that does the same job!) with the number of days of freezing temperatures - snow is more drivable than ice.

Yeah but, Global warming, I mean climate change, I mean the climate emergency is making it more. More colder, more hotter, more average. Panic.

Is it panic ? Is is it providing information ? As we know, society is notoriously stupid, so providing them the information that it may be cold/hot/wet, is well, kinda useful isn't it ?

Not particularly insignificant I suppose, but only to those that live in this area!! LOL

Five youngsters from La Plagne are heading to the youth winter olympics to represent France!! One of them I know :o ! (Well, I know his parents!! LOL) Three of them have been mates since they started school at 3.

I know that the kids do get every opportunity to train in winter sports in this region, but five from one ski resort is pretty awesome :D :D :D
