When we were having a new bathroom fitted, I contacted Essex and Suffolk water to see about getting it replaced ahead of it. I rang and asked for a quote and they said there no charge as the stopcock is their responsibility! They were pleased i'd rang, as they rather schedule the works than an emergency response. Sure enough 2 weeks later a crew turned up and replaced it and you'd never know they'd even been there!

A mate had a concrete drive removed and block paving installed. Except the gas pipe was too shallow.

He phoned up, to ask about getting in sorted.

"We'll only come out if it's leaking."

No, he said, I'm trying to prevent that happening.

"I said WE WILL ONLY COME OUT IF IT'S LEAKING!"

DPD. Rescheduled a delivery to today so i'd be here to accept delivery. Followed the tracking until he's minutes away and then it says he was unable to deliver as there was no answer and the parcel cant go to a collection point so redleivery will be attempted on Monday. Lying bastard. He never came here.

Turned out the hand brake was just frozen. I bused it fri but is all nice and free now. I am going to remember to leave it off and leave it i first gear when it's cold from now on which will hopefully stop it from happening again...

Insurance companies.

Wifey got a new motor so I can have my old Fabia back.

The insurance company want an extra £306 to change from my current Peugeot.

But when I go onto the Meerkats, the same company wants less than I already pay for the present motor to insure the new one.

Minimum £80 to cancel the policy.

They have the actual cheek to say that small modern cars with extra safety features are cheaper to insure. Yes, that's why you want 300 quid for changing from a 23yo French biscuit tin that doesn't even have an airbag never mind ABS or pretensioners.

They all seem to be rising. Camper bus and my work van were up for renewal last week. £200 on the bus and £300 on the van business insurance. The broker did phone to apologise and went away to find me a better deal. Few hours later he got me a company that will insure both. I am still paying more but only £100. Step Daughter was looking into insurance as she want to learn to drive in her mod 30's. Still almost £2000 Me thinks this is the start of the cunts pricing ICE off the road. Road tax up also later this year.

Some bod on the radio said it's down to increased labour and parts costs. Because of parts costs more cars are getting written off when they would have been repaired. eg £7000 for a replacement bumper (BMW iirc) because of all the sensors, lights etc. Marv. A sacrificial chunk of plastic that's there to protect the other bits is now reason to scrap a car.

I guess they spread the pain around so if you're driving an old banger you subsidise the folk with the £7000 bumper (which of course you could be responsible for hitting...that's the Fully Comp factor).

My car insurance has gone up ~50% this year. Same car, same me.

Seems to be par for the course. I can understand some of the argument about EVs, repair costs etc. but it's not like that suddenly all changed at the end of 2023.

Pricing ICE off the road though? You might want to look how much extra EV insurance is for nominally similar cars.

I think we'll look back at the period (roughly) of 1990 to 2010 as a sort of golden age of cars.

They were pretty well made/reliable/lasted quite well, prices weren't silly for something with a bit of oomph, insurance was OK/competitive, security had been vastly improved and you could still look under the bonnet and recognise everything and had a pretty good chance of getting it serviced or repaired by an independent who didn't need 93 sets of different computer diagnostics to do it, spares weren't daft prices, they didn't nag you into a state of catatonia with all the safety features, catalytic converters didn't seem to be on every scrotes 'must steal' list, GPS screens weren't as big as the front windscreen, the insurance companies didn't write them off if you cracked the 'bumper'....

The costs of repair were horrendous and the place doing the work said that because it's an "insurance job" all the garages charge top whack for the work knowing the insurance companies will pay it. If we'd been paying privately the work would have been cheaper (two of the wheels needed repainting from the accident and we got the other two done at the same time for half the price, paying ourselves).

That's part of the reason our costs are going up, the money skimming merry go round.

Works for building insurance too. I claimed for roof damage in a storm, all the work could have been done from a ladder.

Oh no, fully cover the decking with chipboard (that was a few £00s before anything else), scaffolding erected, slates fixed in about 1/2 hour, and everything dismantled again. Total 2 surveyor's, 2 blokes for boarding, 5 scaffold monkeys, and 2 roofers. Must have cost the thick end of £3000 at least.

Similar job with a local guy, £400. 3 blokes, 1 ladder.

That is why your house insurance costs so much.

People that seem to not understand that I am employed, not self employed!!

I’ve done a lot of miles today so a lot of hours (2 trips to GVA plus waiting for a train to do a late transfer from the valley to resort ). I got back at a bit after 9pm. My boss was in the office so when I dropped off the keys I ended up talking to him for half an hour (hasn’t been a good weekend - lots of little errors by lots of different staff )

Got home about 9:40 and within moments someone I know that also has a transfer company messaged me because he’s got a complaint about a driver (a subie, so not actually one of ours, but we did sub the job to him, so the complaint comes to us).

Thing is -

I’ve just finished a 15 hour day

My friend has the office and boss’ numbers
