Last night I cut out some clear vinyl to use as tank protection - did a good job. Early this morning I made a total faff of sticking it on so will have to do it again.

I'll be phoning Triumph to get the first service booked in tomorrow.

I bought curved rulers and everything to get the lines nice.


You can see the bodge job vinyl if you look at the S on the tank.

Is this the ceramic coating doing it's job? I hope so.

I think it looks pretty much run in now.

I'm not getting rid of the Street btw. As I've said, I'll do the Pico's on it in May and see how it goes.

I did the Picos twice on my Street (albeit the older 675 version), and it was bloody brilliant (hence the second trip ). You'll have miles of fun.
But if you want to try a KTM, do it - it's easy to overthink these things, but there's nothing to stop you selling it again and buying another Striple later

This is my fourth Street. I had the 2009 675 standard version and did 63k on it with no issues. I then had the 2012R 675 and did 45k on it with no issues and then had a 2019RS 765 which had two new clutches and a set of cams under the 2 year warranty. I then chopped that in for a Speed Twin and did the Picos on that last year. I spent the whole trip thinking "This would be better on a Street Triple".

You're a much braver person than I. Getting my lazy arse on a motorbike in low single figures C these days is not really happening, and then having to clean a muddy bike in fading light and cold temps would cause me severe pain. And putting it away in that condition is unthinkable.

I saw a bloke today at the traffic lights in Greasbrough on a matt black Indian Scout (with piss pot lid and bandanna).

First thought was kudos for being out on fancy cruiser in this weather, second was, fuck that's going to take some cleaning.

Depends what you class as cleaning. He puts wet things somewhere near the MTB and makes it wetter. Cleaning it, not by my standard

When I said "see how it goes" the "it" is the bike. Will the 765 survive a trip to the Picos? How many clutches will it cost?

I've been a bit quiet because life hasn't stopped throwing curved balls at me.

Just over two weeks ago I lost a good friend. He felt a bit ill over Christmas and died on 16th February of cancer, a day before his 61st birthday. He was the founder of the London Motorcycle Riders Club which is the most successful UK biking club in the last decade and I believe it's success was down to his leadership. I'm heading into to town later today to raise a glass with some of his closest friends. Paul Hayden

Last Sunday, while pottering around at home in my flat I heard some popping and banging. I looked outside and saw smoke pouring out the garage adjacent to mine. I ran outside just as the fire brigade turned up. I stood in the rain watching them tackle the fire. After a while I started to cry as I believed I'd lost my bike and everything else in the garage. The neighbour's garage was used for storage and full of junk and it took over an hour to put the fire out as he wasn't around and it took them ages to get the door open. The fireman took my keys and got my bike out - my friends are calling it The Phoenix. My bike was ok, black with soot and smelling bad but ok. I took it immediately to a friends house and I've spent my spare time this week cleaning up.

My R850RT was known as 'The Urinal'. Partly white and its 'styling', but obviously the BMW smell of wee too

With hindsight, the scene feels familiar - looking on with tears and white knuckles, as close to the flames as is safe, waiting for a hero to appear out of the smoke with your pride and joy. I think the familiarity is from the book Black Beauty which I read as a child. I'm pretty sure that there was a stable fire in that.
