Please bear with me as my post is related to the royal family although I would have the same feeling if it were anyone.

I've been getting a bit miffed by the constant media speculation about the health of Charles and Kate. Like most of the world, I don't know anything about Charles' cancer and hope he's going to be OK, as I would hope for anyone.

My stamping the floor is because I heard today a presenter on a news channel say that Catherine is seriously ill. Although I can't know whether or not this is true, it is speculation based on the length of time 'the palace' has said she will be recuperating after surgery.
I don't know exactly what treatment she had but I had an abdominal operation last year* which the surgeon told me was major surgery with a potential duration of 3 months for a full recovery. Sort of like what we'd been told about Kate. I accept that it's possible the speculation is correct but why not wait until Easter, after which time she was expected to return to royal duties.

One of the last good bits of road in east lancs, the A682 from Gisburn to long Preston now had average speed cameras (50) on it.

I think I'm calling time on the Guzzi, everywhere that isn't riddled with potholes has cash machines on it now.

Is it just me, or have egg shells got really flimsy in the last few years? I used to get "split evenly in half" crack but now I get loads of little bits of shell.

It could be old eggs, type of chicken feed, very young chickens, there's a lot of reasons. Next time you're out in the countryside and you see fresh eggs for sale, stop and buy some.

They come for winter training and their arrogance and self importance knows no bounds and they piss everyone off.

Today, they excelled themselves. Saw 3 cyclists, which would have been easy for cars to pass. Oh no. Their coach was sat in a car behind them, at their speed with hazard warners on.
Blocking the road with large tailbacks. Saw them twice on our morning walk and some cars had to do dodgy overtakes to get past.
Shame the Guardia Civile didn't spot them.

That stretch of road (and a bit further north) was at one time the worst road in Britain and in the top 10 worst roads in Europe according to EuroRap ratings. I did some remedial works on it back in 2004 iirc, most of the work and most of the problems that got it on the list were at the bridge, just north of Gisburn. Are the rumble strips and interactive sign on the northbound approach to the bridge still there?

Two years later it wasn't in the top ten of the UK's list of worst roads and nowhere to be seen on the Europe list. Shame to see they've decided to put average speed cameras on the route but they'd have done the necessary studies I guess which must have indicated a serious issue. But you may be right - a bit of extra taxation for the cash cow that is the motorist.

Flashing lights are BMP! Specifically motorcyclists using the hazard lights of invincibility. I often get stuck behind one who has their indicators going for mile after mile of filtering down the a13. Those led indicators get really bright after 20 minutes of following them!

The other flashing lights are on bicycles. Many of London's cyclist have got this super bright led headlights that have a pulsing flash to them. I get fecking strobed by on the embankment wherr i'm riding next to CS3. I used to be able to retaliate with the Africa Twins retina burning driving lights, but I have no such armoury on the X-ADV, yet...

You need farmers who will lead the way driving very slow, very wide tractors, towing very long trailers, carrying loads of very smelly organic soil improver.

Long story short:
Gremlinette: Father, I want to take my car to Manchester where upon I am studying as it will make my life easier.

Me: But, child. You live in the city centre. You don't need a car, plus you'll have to let your insurance co. know and they will charge you to change the policy details, plus you'd best not let them know that you've been up there since Sept. as they might get arsey.

Fast forward to today:
Gremlinette: Father, I did indeed contact my insurance co. and may have let slip that I live up here now and they've just cancelled my policy.


FFS. There was only about 5 weeks left on the fecking policy anyway.

Anyhow, she and I have been looking around and, notwithstanding the cancelled policy, one year's insurance, with same details as last year, is now rocking in at £3,300. With Mrs. G as main driver and Gremlinette as named, £3,700. My advice: Sell the fecking car and be done with it.

She's been given seven days 'til the policy ends, so she needs to get her arse in gear and bring it back home. Alternatively, she has off-street parking in the halls, but I'd feel happier if the car was where I could see it.

She did say that the Aura Insurance told her that she would not have to declare it as a cancelled policy as it was a case that the underwriter simply wasn't quoting that postcode. Not sure how accurate that is, as I've seen the letter emailed from Aura that clearly states that the policy has been cancelled.

And suddenly I find myself stressing about it all. Why? I bloody told her not to take it. The cheapest insurance I can find, and not declaring any cancellations, is £2,100. I suspect it would have been that much come renewal anyway, but it's still bugging me.
