TBF at MotoGP level, particularly with a factory team, any one combination of engine, frame, bodywork, wheels etc wouldn't have stayed together for very long. The concept of a 'matching numbers' bike is a bit meaningless.

They’ve got a 2007 Stoner bike, too. I’m sure I watched both of them not reach close to reserve earlier this year, might have been with the same auction house.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
I asked the wife if I could buy the 2nd nearest bike to my house on Gumtree.
She said yes.
I replied "I've always fancied a Widow maker"
She then said no. I dunno why, I've got 3x Death In Service.

Looks alright for the miles. I might make a silly low ball offer anyway.

I didn't get on with my TL either. Too small for my long legs and too effing fast for my reasonably congested commute. Sold it for a 750 monster which was too slow!

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Always love that people who don't like a bike say it's awful/not well made/bad handling etc etc etc
I rode mine way too fast on the road, tracked it, hill climbed it and bloody loved it - even more so without the stupid bastard steering damper
I know - I'm weird
But, it was still my favourite bike

True, it's an opinion
The only bike I've ever had more fun on / enjoyed more was the KTM 390 Duke, but for different reasons!
But I do know more that dislike the TLs than like it - although most are from IL4 backgrounds

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
That one claims to have an R1 shock.
I did a bit of digging and it's a popular mod.
Remember the TLS has a two part rear suspension system. A rotary damper and a separate 'Spring On A Stick' (SOAS they call it on all the forums)
You take an 99-06 R1 shock, take the spring off it and replace the standard rotary damper with it using a special bracket (you can make or buy from sellers on Ebay). You keep the standard 'spring on a stick'.
Needs must, when the devil rides, but who comes up with this stuff, who decided one day to try and fit a springless R1 damper to his bike?

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Horrible they are not. There's nothing wrong with the chassis, it's the 'door closer' shock that's the problem. That and the fact that Suzuki let the bike out with a 190/50 rear tyre that made it steer like a tank. Stick a 180/55 and 5.5" rear rim and it steers very nicely.Screwdriver wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2024 10:59 pm In reality, they are horrible machines. Too much engine for the chassis and cycle parts.
But it did have a good engine; at least the early models did before Suzuki de-tuned them.

Sorry, there's way too many negatives in that, could you translate it for those of us with Pooh bear brains?Screwdriver wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 2:01 pm If it wasn't awful/not well made/bad handling etc. I wouldn't not like it.

Well if I didn't say that If it wasn't awful/not well made/bad handling etc. I wouldn't not like it, then you might not think I did. Or perhaps you would?

(It is quite unpleasant. The seat looks like the ejector function has jammed, the swing arm is vile and it looks like the whole thing had sunk in the middle. Nasty).

To be fair, a Scott does look sunk in the middle!
Here’s a 1957.

True, it's what he's done with the seat that makes it look really odd. It did get me reading about them again (I helped restore a Flyer when I was at school). I never realised but there was a Silk version.JackyJoll wrote: Tue Aug 20, 2024 8:42 am To be fair, a Scott does look sunk in the middle!

Edit: correction, I never realised that the Silk was a Scott Flying Squirrel with Spondon frame and forks.

Is it just me?? That frame looks very similar to a Yamaha RD350 frame?Skub wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2024 2:19 pm Get the classic bois excercised..https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305733262716 ... qjzYo8clUQ

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Could well be. Those curved spars behind the engine look very similar. The frame mounts are different, but that's to be expected.
Doesn't look like a Kawa triple frame anyway.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
I'm keeping an eye on the free ads/marketplace for a winter project. I've set myself a budget of up to £2k (which is why I keep posting cheap shitters). I'd really like a Honda Bros, but they're all further away that I want to travel.
I spotted this on gumtree today. Back in my late teens I had to make a choice between a 400 Bros and one of these. I picked the Bros.
I'd be half tempted, but these days I don't think I'd be able to bend myself to fit, they're proper tiny.
