Current Affairs/Politics/etc.... Comeback or keep it binned ?
Re: Current Affairs/Politics/etc.... Comeback or keep it binned ?
I see it as quite simple: if you don't like it - don't go there. I like that the rest of the site is pretty civilised and if people feel the need to be horrible then fine, that's the place to go. Nobody actually gets hurt.....

Re: Current Affairs/Politics/etc.... Comeback or keep it binned ?
I used to frequent a (Septic) bike forum where all discussion on politics, religion, and anything else even vaguely controversial was banned. It was boring, you got to know which names were knowledgeable about bikes, but virtually nothing else about them. This place at least lets you form a mental picture of people, warts and all.
I like discussion on politics and stuff. I have learned a lot from other people's posts, and have even been known to change my views, at least a bit. Robust debate doesn't really bother me, even the occasional snipe in another thread is ok, but full scale trolling is not. And anyone looking to take arguments into RL needs locking up rather than just banning.

Do i need to share graphs to prove it ?Screwdriver wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:31 amYes I do find that difficult to believe as a user but clearly, the numbers don't lie.weeksy wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:15 amWell you're actually wrong about that in terms of posts, reads, views etc... OTOH, it's fairly obvious the forum has died a death since removing the ability to discuss important matters.
You may see that differently but the figures are there
Depending on how one might precisely define "slightly more".

If it is brought back there is one user who needs a permanent ban from the forum, and it's not Screwdriver

I agree wholeheartedly. Actually knowing stuff is very annoying and constantly gets in the way of proper opinion. Ban the bastard post haste.KungFooBob wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:49 amMr Dazzle!Pirahna wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:48 am If it is brought back there is one user who needs a permanent ban from the forum, and it's not Screwdriver

TBF we're talking 2-3% different between pre-closure and it being shutdown.Screwdriver wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:31 am Depending on how one might precisely define "slightly more".
It's not a lot either way i'll admit.
Personally though i feel when politics was closed the forum was a much nicer place to be.
Sadly for me, the vote was cast by the members and it's re-opened.... which i completely disagree with (Just for the record)

What would be cool is a "complain" button. If you don't like an angry reply, just press the button. When 5 members do it, the reply is deleted automatically.

There is of course the report button, which is very very rarely used by people.

How would you know you don't like it without reading it first? And by then it's too late and sensibilities will be bruised.Mr Moofo wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 11:26 amI have never understood why people just don't read stuff they don't likeweeksy wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 11:24 amDoesn't exist within the forum software.Yorick wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 11:21 am What would be cool is a "complain" button. And when it is used it's usually by the same handful* of people. Yeah, I know.
