Motocross bike recommendation

Post by dern »

Can anyone recommend cheap motocross bikes for an adult to get started on? Anything that can handle novice session at open days at wildtracks would be suitable. I don’t know anything about mx bikes so am looking for some recommendations to search eBay and fb market place. Thanks.

MotoX bikes aren't usually road legal.

An enduro bike might be more versatile.

It doesn’t need to be road legal. I already have a 690 enduro. I just want to load it in the van, take it to the venue and ride.

This kicked off the question by the way...

I didn't know that you could do track days at motocross days and this place is 40 minutes from where we're moving to next week.

We've got 3 tracks over here to use for free.

I'd go with a Japanese 4-stroke 250 (so Honda or Kawasaki) and, obviously depending on condition etc, happily buy one up to, say, 15 years old or so.

Any 250 4 stroke, Japanese are more reliable, but KTMs have a decent reputation these days, but remember they're competition bikes and will have been used hard.

TMs are things of great beauty, especially the two strokes, but I wouldn't buy one.

I once heard it said that TM was Italian for DNF.

Nicw, should be a good giggle.

Are there many tracks near you?

Sadly Elsworth closed, I believe Wildtracks is still going.

Wildtracks seem to be doing well. There’s Besthorpe as well. There’s also training at a track near Mildenhall.

Only just seen this post, but you've moved Norfolk way? When I go to north Suffolk each year I've remembered passing a spot where you can often see MX bikes higher than the roadside hedges on the A12. Had a quick look and seems it's Blythburgh Motocross Track. No idea if that's any good for you? Seems they have an active FB group.
