Honda CBR650r sticky ignition barrel

Right, the 2022 cbr650r has a sticky barrel, I out the key in and it’s hard to turn it.

It happened 4/5 months ago as well
I blasted it with WD-50 and it sorted it (a quick google today said dont do that)

My Honda face book group says to use graphite powder in the lock (but google also says do not as it’s outside and get clogged up when wet)

So what’s the score, how do I sort it???

Last week I did my font door key by rubbing it with a pencil, worked a threat.

You can get Graphite/PTFE sprays that will do the job.

It might be ok, but I personally wouldn't put ACF-50 in a lock. It's super sticky stuff.

Personally I think it’s the “fluid of the gods” fixes any rust lubrication issues ( not brakes mind)

Cheap easy fix to put a little on the key and put the key in the lock , u feel the difference nearly immediately and unlike w d 40 which evaporates this seeps into the nook and crannies and works for a long period
Plus u use so little you have the remainder for multitude of other tasks if needed

But hey hoe each to there own I suppose

I had trouble getting the key in and out of the RE 500 ignition earlier this year. Powder is no good once spray has been used. WD 40 didn't work.
Few drops of acf 50 on the key, insert, leave for 10 minutes and sorted. Slid in and out smoothly from that day forward. Turning the key was never issue.

So, got home last night, no graphite powder, checked Amazon, delayed delivery

So I’ve ordered an AFC-50 as well, let’s see what comes first

Strictly speaking the Bonnevile does, but you could hotwire it without even taking your gloves off

So it’s had a cheeky squirt of AFC-50, key has been cleaned as it had a very small amount of dirt in the groves (minuscule) and seems to be working fine.

If it does happen again maybe I’ll have to look into getting the barrel cleaned if that’s possible.

I was about to buy a new aftermarket barrel yesterday. £25 cheaper than the new keys i was quoted but then i thought, i still need under the seat so just paid for the new keys. Guy made me a third free and gave me them for £10 cheaper than first quoted. All three keys slide in and turn easier. More so when trying to get the steering lock on. Any change you have a worn key?

No idea, I guess I’ll have to wait to see if it happens again and try a new key, unless they can look at it and see?

I WD40'd the door locks on one of the kids cars in desperation as was getting hard to unlock, costs me 2 new lock barrels!
It blew out all the remaining OEM lube and made the issue 10x worse.....

That reminds me, even when you have central locking/plipper on a car it's a good idea, occasionally, to use the actual key in the lock(s). The remote system on my old Volvo failed so the plippers didn't work. Tried to use the key...and the barrels on the driver's door and tailgate were jammed solid. (Fortunately it failed when I tried to lock the car rather than when I tried to open it so I could still get in and use it but couldn't lock it. Somewhere in the process of trying to ease the locks I managed to lock the driver's door then couldn't get in again through that door ).
