The Beast Must Die ('Thriller' miniseries ITV)

Has Jared Harris in it and I quite like him, so thought it worth a shout. Dreadful. Harris is 'The Beast', and tbf he plays quite a good awful, callous and self-entitled father / husband / lover / obvious-hit-and-run bastard. But "the beast must die", right? So yeah he dies at the hands of run-over-child's mother, who has been on Harris's case the entire time. Triffic'.

There's a side-story about the lead detective which doesn't really go anywhere. Don't look for any twists and turns here. Nul points.

I only endured the first episode despite wanting to see the exotic locations nearby.

Watched and loved The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart on Amazon, that's a proper tale of toxic masculinity.

Chanced across Normal People on IPlayer last night. Only two episodes in but it's quite compelling even though, and this is the odd thing, nothing happens. Just a story, so far, of two Irish teens, from different backgrounds, who become romantically involved. Both leads are excellent in terms of performance.

Watched Paddington 2 on Netflix last night.

Hands down, the best film I've seen this year.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE

Over time, I've seen a fair few clips from this series, and so when I saw the complete Blu-Ray box set selling on Amazon for less than the DVD set, I bought it.

Not started it yet, but I'm really looking forward to doing so.

Watched this and it started out as a typical corny, preposterous Hollywood film, but should have been an easy enjoyable watch, which it kinda was, but I'd pretty much lost interest by the end...

Overall, it's excellent. As ever, when series go on for a while, one or two seasons are a bit :hmmm: but still watchable. Enjoy your 'Nucky'. :D

PS Stephen Graham as Al Capone was an unusual, but inspired, bit of casting but Steve Buscemi is colossal.

PPS Anyone looking for a boxed set that may have got under the radar, have a gander at Carnivàle.

I'm watching "Mr Mercedes" based upon a Steven King novel... Series 1 was ace... Series 2 is dragging the arse out of it without actually having much of a plot really.

Watched Taboo on iPlayer. Tom Hardy at his brooding best along with a bloody good cast including Jonathon Pryce, Stephen Graham, Jessie Buckley. Was really good. Really, really good, in fact. Watched it all the way to the end....and there was no ending. No conclusion. Threads left hanging.

It was made back in 2019, so I'm guessing a second season was planned, but never happened.

This came on last night and i started to watch it but soon realised it wasn't my thing. The wife was enjoying it and didnt want to look for something else, so I left it on and then found myself still watching it! I did bail as it was late and i had an early start, but I now find I need to finish watching it later even if i have no real idea why! :wtf:

Film (available on Prime at the moment): Brian & Charles

Sweet film about a man who lives on his own in a remote farm in Wales - he's always inventing things, and one day he builds himself a robot, Charles.
Really interesting dynamic between this odd man and his odder companion. In a way it's very much about oddness, loneliness and Charles is sort a metaphor for a needy child or elderly relative.
I really enjoyed it.

There's a short (that the film was expanded from) on YouTube.

Do you like Wheeler Dealers, but always thought all it needed to make it better was to get ride of Mike Brewer and add in some Grand Design style building stuff, then I have the show for you!
