And you tell kids today and they don't believe you

Post by Sadlonelygit »

I was chatting to some young'uns at a family get together, and telling them how you used to be able to smoke on public transport/aircraft etc.
Now I have a reputation for 'embelishing the truth' at family gatherings, these kids went and asked their parents.....who then had to ask their parents if people used to smoke on aircraft!
Made me feel old.

I'd have thought the mirror would manage that task perfectly well.

They played Bryan Adams Everything I Do on the radio last week.

I told the Accounts guy that he wouldn't remember it being No.1 for sixteen weeks. He said he'd never heard it before :)

I had some maintenance guys working in my studio the other day, trying to sort out some electrical fault which was proving to be somewhat perplexing and various insulting expletives were being exchanged.
I said never mind, this time next year you'll be millyonaires!
The older 2 laughed, but the yoof said "I dont get it"?
One of the older guys said "FFS Only fools and horses"!
The teen replied "Oh yeah I think my old man watches that on Dave".
I looked it up and saw the last episode ran in 2003 and he probably wasn't born then!

Not really the same but I’m sat in my favourite cafe bar and the boss asked when my birthday is so I said the date. He said yes, but what year.

When I told him one of the girls working there said - oh that’s the same year as my dad ! :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

FFS - I generally still think I’m in my early 30’s and most of the people I mix with are in their twenties and thirties - kinda brings me back down to earth a bit suddenly to hear that

The earliest No 1 I can recall was Rock around the Clock by Bill Halley. That was 70 years ago - WTF happened!

I'm even more surprised that Ian McCulloch is still alive!

(He's 65  ).

"Nobody's heard of Peter Frampton, this sounds like an acoustic cover".

Divorce paperwork already filed :angry-cussingblack:

He used to live in the (converted) mausoleum just outside the grounds of the school I went to - we thought he was old then...

Nobody's heard of....apart from...those with a copy of Frampton Comes Alive

Released on 15 January 1976, Frampton Comes Alive! debuted on the charts at No. 191. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 the week ending 10 April 1976, spending 10 non-consecutive weeks in the top spot through October. It was the best-selling album of 1976 and has sold over 8,000,000 copies in the United States.

I had a copy too.

Before you tell them this, get ready to catch them or have CPR equipment to hand (this isn't that long ago either*).

There was no Internet and no mobile phones.

(*Factoid: current darts sensation Luke Littler was born in the same year as the iPhone......2007).

To see if you were a drunk driver police made you walk along a straight line and say 'The Leith police dismisseth us'. (I hardly believe that one myself!)

Youngsters didn't need a pantechnicon at the start and end of each Uni year.

Kids used to walk to school (or even get a bus) - on their own).

Want to play a computer game in the 80's?

Well, you'll have to sit and wait five minutes while it loaded from cassette tape!

<I had to google the five minutes, as a kid it felt, much, much longer>

After you'd recorded it from the end of a TV programme.

Even I think that's made up and I remember doing it. I had to Google to check
