If I was in the market for a blingy one I'd be tempted to hold off pending a 'tariff-related overstock/excess production capacity' scenario.

Are any of them actually made there? Otherwise they're all heading for up-tariffing. Including Trumpy's bling jobs - Swiss or Chinese made.
I reckon the new watch market's going to get a wobble on at the pricey end. Could be some bargains.

As above, Hamilton stopped being American in the late 60s. Weird how they kept the American name but moved production to Switzerland - feels like the wrong way around

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
I want to buy a decent quality leather strap to go on a Steinhart Racetimer.
22mm lugs - I would like dark blue or black.
Any recommendations as Amazon and Ebay seem to have a plethora of tat?

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
The wife has just told me she wants to buy me a Moonwatch for my birthday.
The usual suspects (Goldsmith, Beaverbrooks, TH Baker, etc..) list the council spec one at £6600 and one with a bit of extra polishing on the strap and a clear rear cover so you can see the movement (I'm sure there's other differences too) for £7500.
Coupert/Honey find codes online for 10% with all of them, but it knocks off any 0% finance options. I've got the cash, but it can stay invested elsewhere if I could get the 0%. If not £660/750 is quite a saving.
I'll probably go Goldsmiths in Meadowhell on Monday, does anyone know if they 'negotiate' in store?
If it helps, the wife would like a Ladies Navitimer too, would they do a better discount on two watches?
Does anyone know anywhere that sells official UK stock at lower than Omega list prices, all the vendors I've found have all the same prices, I assume Omega tell the resellers to 'fix' the prices?

Never seen Omegas discounted except on some very sus sites.
Can you get your wife to call mine and explain why buying her husband a nice watch is a good idea please.
I will settle for a nice Tudor.

It won’t hurt to ask, but I doubt you’ll get any substantive discount from an AD. You never know though.KungFooBob wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 5:14 pm The wife has just told me she wants to buy me a Moonwatch for my birthday.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
I'm sure no one is interested, but I found this review which lists the differences between the two 2021 spec watches (the £6600 and the £7500).
The cheaper is more authentic in relation to the original watches that went to the moon with plastic 'glass' and a brushed finish strap. The more expensive has a polished strap, and sapphire glass front and rear covers.

Authenticity or bling?
I'm currently thinking bling due to the better scratch resistance of sapphire glass?

Take the hard wearing option. No matter how careful you are it will still get twatted on door frames, walls etc.

The plastic (hesalite) is easier to polish the scratches out... but the sapphire is harder to scratch.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Sun Apr 20, 2025 6:49 pm I've got the plastic one, it's always scratched to fuck.

Oh, and the sapphire one has a sapphire glass back panel so you can watch the movement like some kind of saddo.

I have a seamaster - but would love a speedmaster. Just not sure I can justify buying one - though it is my 65th birthday in two weeks time.KungFooBob wrote: Sun Apr 20, 2025 6:56 pmThe plastic (hesalite) is easier to polish the scratches out... but the sapphire is harder to scratch.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Sun Apr 20, 2025 6:49 pm I've got the plastic one, it's always scratched to fuck.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
The Seamaster doesn't really do anything for me (tho' I do like the idea of the James Bond link), I'm not really into diver stylee watches. The Speedmaster Professional is the only Premium watch I want (to go with my Fisher Space pen).

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
Jeez, sapphire crystal for my Casio cost 20 quid and the press to fit it was less than 20 quid.KungFooBob wrote: Sun Apr 20, 2025 6:30 pm I'm sure no one is interested, but I found this review which lists the differences between the two 2021 spec watches (the £6600 and the £7500).

For me its an absolute no brainer as the mineral glass got scabled to feck in a weeks worth of work. The sapphire (well corundum actually) was cheap and looks perfect over a year after I fitted it.
To my uneducated eye, it does seem.a fair bit of extra cash for it though eh?
I appreciate that I didn't prssure test mine and the the pressure test doo da osts a couple of hundred notes but fuck me.
I'll stick with me Casio and mebbe piss about with a Seikp or two.

Yeah, I’ve got the hesalite manual wind one as well.
