Gaming, how close do you sit?

I've just treated myself to an XBOX X

I use a 32" TV and I'm sat 2.5 - 3 metres away.

In the new (to me) games, it will explain on screen what that thing is I just picked up, and why I need it, that sort of thing.

The thing is, I can't read the text on screen. EG, I've 'lost' games because I can't see what button i'm supposed to smash to get the dog to stop biting me.

The subtitles are OK, and annoyingly the only thing that is adjustable.

I do wear glasses for reading, but they are not essential (yet).

Do I NEED to sit closer ? Or is there an alternative solution (bigger brighter TV?)

I had some specs made up with a specific focal length for desk-based screen work (I sit a bit further away than eg I was reading about book). I'm sure they'd do you a pair with a 2.5-3.0 metre focal length.

Good for what?
I'm of an age now where I'm offered different prescriptions for distance and for medium distance use, the wife has good eyesight, can see like a hawk at distance without glasses but still needs readers.
There's good, good and then good, but if they said you don't need 'em sure go buy a bigger telly, or just sit closer.

Well, yeah. That is quite small for TVs these days and with 4k gaming, text has become smaller. It has been a complaint for a few years.

I'm of an age now where I'm offered different prescriptions for distance and for medium distance use, the wife has good eyesight, can see like a hawk at distance without glasses but still needs readers.

Good enough that I only need glasses for reading and my vision without them is at a normal level. t seems that i used to have really good eyesight, now I have average ?!

I used to have prescription distance/driving specs and excellent near sight. As I got older my distance vision improved and near vision deteriorated. So, now I don't need driving specs but wear +2 'ready readers'.

Apparently it's not unusual. The muscles weaken as we age so the relaxing helps focus on infinity but they fall short on pulling the eye into shape for near sight.
