Dunno about Tesla, but in certain Mercs and Beemers the "gearbox" flappy paddles on the steering wheel adjust the level of regen braking. You can easily flick between "put you through the windscreen" and "float along free wheeling" using said paddles.

Yes it is adjustable. I have it on standard but you can set it to low, which,apparently, most people use for a winter driver profile. I also have acceleration set to chill which saves tyre wear and increases range and theres no way you need full power for day-to-day driving but its 2 screen taps if you want it? I did change some other settings based on recommendations, but I haven't driven it since getting it home. Hopefully get out in it at the weekend to try and get used to it...

I saw a year or so ago that there's a hydrogen filling' station in the valley - have seen a few buses saying they are powered by hydrogen, so, maybe!!

(At least, I'm pretty sure it's hydrogen!!)

Ammonia power will probably be mainly for shipping. There are ships in the water and in development that are ammonia fuelled (or dual fuelled). It's more likely that ammonia will be common in ships than hydrogen but I don't expect to see any ammonia cars in showrooms.

Be interesting to know what the NOx emissions are from an ammonia powered engine.

I took it for its first drive yesterday. Wow! Thats about all I can say about the car. I'm struggling so get my head round the one pedal driving but getting used to it. Also struggling to get used to the eerie quietness of it all!

It is blisteringly fast, stupidly so really, which is fun, but it seems wrong without gear changes snatching away and induction and exhaust roar! But the transition between standing still and prison time is still sheer exhilaration in a stealthy kind of way! I'm kinda torn here as the performance is undeniable, but, for me, the experience is lacking without the associated noise of an ICE. Dazzle is going to say its an age thing and he's probably right!

As a luxury form of transport though, battery power is king. Silent, silky smooth transportation with only road noise to hear. Obviously this isn't unique to Teslas, but it is my first and only experiance of an EV and I do love it. When I said to my mate I was getting one he said be careful in town and car parks with one. I said why are they snatchy on the throttle? He said no, every fucker walks in front of them cos they don't hear 'em! I bet thats a really good point.

So early days of course, but initial thoughts are I'm very pleased with it.

I suppose it doesn't do the pedestrian alerting spaceship whirr? Too old.

Once you go EV you don't go back. Certainly for a daily driver it's such a better way to propel a vehicle.

I was pedalling the other day and had 200 meters of A53. Various cars overtaking me including a black Tesla. Road noise from my pov was all the same. Hopefully in carparks etc, it might teach pedestrians to actually look where they're going.

EVs have to make a noise below about 15mph now, they all have various forms of artificial sci fi whirr. Pedestrians not hearing them is not an issue any more.

Above that speed the tyres are the nosiest thing, just like on an ICE car.

Taipans is (probably) just a bit too old to be subject to that law.

I did see it the other day when scrolling through trying to find out how to turn off the annoying lock/unlock confirmation honk. Apparently you can configure that to play a different sound, possibly even a fart one?! There is so mucg stuff in thetoybox that I havent even looked at yet...

Boring German OEMs like us concentrate less on man child jokes and more on things like actually homologating systems and retaining buttons for key driving functions
