It's virtually impossible to pack up an overfull 13sqm apartment whilst still needing to live in it!!!
Soooo - I've packed some stuff I will take straight to the new place, including the bedding so I can sleep there tomorrow! Then Imll have more options for using space here!
Bloody hoping that from Saturday I can use my mates garage again for storage cos an awful lot of stuff will need to go in 'a' garage!!

Drain rods that unscrew themselves with the slightest little tap,
Narrow drain access chambers that have been buried much lower than they should be, resulting in drain rods that can't be constantly turned to stop them unscrewing.
Larger sewer chambers with outlets up close to the top under a cap so I can barely see it let alone get any tools in there.

The bin men* came today. I had to go out just after they emptied my bin and left it blocking my drive so I moved it onto the lawn intending to take it to the back garden when I got home. When I got home about an hour later, somebody had moved it back onto the drive so I had to get out and move it onto the lawn again before I could park. I don't understand why anybody would do that. There's some weird people around.

Cyanoacrylate is moisture curing, as soon as it's exposed to water it begins the sticky reaction. That's why it doesn't set in the tube....no moisture! Any residue on the outside will be exposed to atmospheric moisture, hence sticking your lid on.Felix wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 7:58 pm Superglue. What cant they make a superglue resistant cap. And it's good at sticking fingers together because it was created to stick wounds together in a hurry on the battlefield. (Though this may or may not be apocryphal but it's what my physics master said when it first appeared for general use. Even then I think he ordered it from a scientific equipment supplies company).Mr. Dazzle wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 8:01 amCyanoacrylate is moisture curing, as soon as it's exposed to water it begins the sticky reaction. I heard it was developed to stick optics together and the flesh thing was an accident.
More likely it was developed merely to be sticky and the applications came later!

Using the glue as a plaster is exactly my main usage. Bloody fingers are always getting crack in the sides what can be nippy as hell. When at work they get filled with dirt so i glue the cracks up. Nippy relief for the day

It was accidentally developed by Eastman-Kodak apparently. They were trying to make a clear plastic and it was one of the failures. (See also Post-it notes for another accidental developmentMr. Dazzle wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 8:13 am I heard it was developed to stick optics together and the flesh thing was an accident.

Slippery PTFE (Teflon) too, AFAIK. PTFE was developed as a lightweight alternative to rubber insulation for use in airborne electronics, something it's still used for a lot. The fact it's non-stick came much later.
Gonna take ages to do an entire living room using little tubes.

Apparently first used in Vietnam War for exactly that. I had some MOD stuff that I was given by an RAF bloke that made the civilian stuff look like wallpaper paste.Count Steer wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 8:07 am And it's good at sticking fingers together because it was created to stick wounds together in a hurry on the battlefield. When I worked at Lucas Aerospace in my youth, they had IS12 which was superceded by IS496 IIRCZRX61 wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 2:21 pmApparently first used in Vietnam War for exactly that. ' Internet' security...... again
My blood test results were sent to me. A secure document I needed a password for, enter the password, the document opens. Wonderful. (all on my phone)
It's required that I print the results and take them with me this afternoon.
NAH, can't print this document, it's secure, my phone tells me.
I'm advised to try my laptop, and sure enough, I open the same document using the same link and print it off with no issues.
How can it be considered "dangerous" to be able to print it from my phone but fine to print it from my laptop?

When bottled water costs over twice the price of pump petrol.
I usually take plenty of tap water, but needed to get more today

Our lovely dog has just turned ten (ish - he's a rescue, so it's all a bit ish). He now costs more to insure than the fucking Audi.

£1043.35 to be precise. He's a big lump rescue mix from Croatia, so who knows what he is, but the vet reckons there's Irish Wolfhound and German Shepherd in there somewhere. I assume the turning 10 (ish!), has caused the bump up.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Went for a couple of beers last night, to a pub in East London. It's been taken over by an Irish pub group and was staffed by Irish guys. My colleague, who is half-French, half-Swedish was at the bar ordering a drink and struggling to understand as the barman had a thick Irish accent. I jokingly mentioned she was struggling due to the first-language thing, to which the guy made a comment to me about 'at least she's not English with 800 years of raping and pillaging history, eh?'
I laughed it off, but the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it was a pretty offensive remark, not to mention stupid as when I recounted what was said this morning the consensus was that we wouldn't be going back again.
And their range of beer was pretty awful too.

It's not even like the French have a spotless record in that regard either! Go back and tell 'im.
