Well it arrived today, bubble wrapped and in a plastic bag.Scotsrich wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 12:01 am Ordered something which will either be a fantastic money saver or complete disaster (almost certainly the latter)
I was looking at visors for my Neotec 2 and prices were about the £60 - £70 mark...ouch.
Amongst the sponsored images was one from Temu at £7.10 (including postage). Well I'm not desperate for one so I thought I'd get a laugh and put in an order. What can possibly go wrong?? It's got to be worth £7.10 just as a story to tell my mates alone.
Delivery time is about a week. I'll keep you posted on the results
I opened it, ready to have a laugh and tbh I don't know whether to be pleased or horrified. It looks identical to the original apart from the Shoei stamp and the E marking of course. Exact same mould marks. I weighed it out of interest and it's actually 5 grams heavier.
I fitted it and it went on just as well as the original. No gaps, in fact it looks like it seals perfectly although I haven't tried it yet. In a direct comparison with my wife's Neotec 2 the fit looks identical. It even came with Pinlock pins.
I'm tempted just to keep it on.
This isn't an ad for Temu and I'm fully aware of the ethos about Chinese ripping off western manufacturers but is an original worth 7 times the price for a piece of stamped plastic?
In conclusion I was fully prepared for it to be shite and it wasn't.

The acid test will be whether or not it shatters with the first stone chip that hits it, or not.Scotsrich wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 3:45 pmWell it arrived today, bubble wrapped and in a plastic bag.Scotsrich wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 12:01 am Ordered something which will either be a fantastic money saver or complete disaster (almost certainly the latter)

Re: What have you done today thread?
Made plans for a uk trip - bit of a manic one as usual, but the plan is to catch up with the older family and hopefully some of the young ones and at least this time I have my own transport!!
Then, as talking to my Aunt about when I'd get to her place, I realise that I've booked the right EuroTunnel train for leaving here qbout 6 or 7am, pretty sociable I thought. But then I realised that the train arrives at Folkstone about 5pm uk time
Not ideal as have to travel to Braintree
Sooo, now looks like I have to leave here about 4am!!
Oh well, at least the winter work means that I'm used to that
Almost finished in the apartment - totally wiped out today, back and both arms unhappy, so I quit a bit early and will got back early tomorrow to grab a couple of things I left today and then go and see if there is a supermarket open in the valley tomorrow morning so I can buy some cheese and genepi to bring over for various people
Have made plans to see some amazing friends that I've not seen since before their eldest was born - and I think he's six
and they have a younger girl too. So that'll be lovely. Now trying to get hold of my niece and nephew to see if they are near where I'll be so I can get to see them too (especially since one of them wants the genepi and one wants the cheese
). Have a couple of other friends to see before heading to my mother then my Dad and then Portsmouth for an overnight ferry to Caen!!
Also made plans for a two night stop on the way home through France. It'll really be a four night stop before I get home but two nights with friends in the Correze
And then, depending on the work schedule of himself, possibly a two night stop after as I have an appointment with the shoulder surgeon, so can do a night either side on the way back through. Lots of crossing of fingers that his work schedule is ok for us to meet up - sometimes this relationship stuff is a bit challenging for someone that hasn't really done that for too many decades!!!

And in 40 years of track crashes (over 50) never slid on my face. Never had a visor even damaged.

Took the car to get four new tyres so nipped and bought a sandwich and a copy of MCN to fill the time - MCN was four quid! Four!

The missus brings me a copy from uk a few times a year. I never see the price but it never takes more than 30 mind to read it.ChrisW wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 6:00 pm Took the car to get four new tyres so nipped and bought a sandwich and a copy of MCN to fill the time - MCN was four quid! Four!

Yup. Many moons ago I found myself ceasing to be pillion and sliding down the road (towards the headlights of the oncoming traffic!). My visor was not a pretty sight - or usable - after, but it did the job and stayed in one piece.MrLongbeard wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 4:10 pmYou'll only find out when a stone is fired at you, or you slide down the road on your face, I'm impressed at the level of trust you place on knock off shite.Scotsrich wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 3:45 pm In conclusion I was fully prepared for it to be shite and it wasn't.
Also been whacked in the helmet/visor by some low-flying French wildlife. The visor survived intact, not sure about the bird.

You pays your money and takes your chances, this wee excursion prompted me to bin my open face lids, and maybe you've not had a stone chip is because they're pukka certified visors built to withstand such silliness...Yorick wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:56 pmI've not had a stone chip on the visor for years.MrLongbeard wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 4:10 pmYou'll only find out when a stone is fired at you, or you slide down the road on your face, I'm impressed at the level of trust you place on knock off shite.Scotsrich wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 3:45 pm In conclusion I was fully prepared for it to be shite and it wasn't.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I've had a few "offs" over the years and every one has finished up with a crash helmet like that. But here's a funny thing, I also wear open face helmets. I used to happily commute on Fireblades in the summer wearing a piss pot, but I've never crashed wearing one. Maybe I'm more careful with an open face hat than a full face?MrLongbeard wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 6:16 pmYou pays your money and takes your chances, this wee excursion prompted me to bin my open face lids, and maybe you've not had a stone chip is because they're pukka certified visors built to withstand such silliness...Yorick wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:56 pmI've not had a stone chip on the visor for years.MrLongbeard wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 4:10 pm

Re: What have you done today thread?
Weirdly, the only time my visor hit the ground (with my head in the lid) was the flying/shoulder accident - the visor popped off. I never actually got to see the visor, but the helmet had the tiniest of scratches on the back (I rolled a fair few times too!), no other damage - I guessed that the force of the first impact popped off the visor but as I didn't slide, no scratches to it!!Count Steer wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 6:08 pmYup. Re: What have you done today thread?
Got so fucking angry I felt I could have cried with frustration.
Cock up in work - fingers being pointed at my team. Well, I have three guys who are being pulled every way, having not been allowed to replace my guy who left last year. The phrase 'we need to throw the book at X' was used. Fuck off, the fact that we're being asked to do more with less and the fact that mistakes are creeping in should tell you we need support, not a bollocking. FFS, my boss needs to learn to punch up, not down. Stand up for your fucking team.
We had words over Skype. Pleasant enough, but firm.
Told him some time ago things will go pear, but the shit keeps coming. Latest gem: we need to hold a Gilt portfolio. Great, but we don't have a bond system. Answer : let's just fudge it with some manual postings and pretend it's a loan. WTF?
I've just sent an email stating my frustrations and my blood pressure (160/92) and telling him I need to look after my health, so will be taking some time off.
Chez Gremlin may be on the market to fund earlier-than-expected retirement soon. I am so fucking angry right now.

I feel your pain, not with the current mob, but the last one, next to zero support, when it was sought, mostly told to just do it the way I thought it should be done, to be potentially kicked all over when the brown stuff started flying around. I earned my first formal complaint* for years and years, for being told one thing and something else being applicable…
* complaint ended up with FOS who found in my favour, advice WAS sound, processing could have been more swift, it ultimately there was no loss to the client.
My today has been very quiet as I’m in limbo, my manager / supervisor is on annual leave which means I can’t see clients, I can be cleared to see clients until I’ve been assessed again (next week). I’m waiting for two reports to be drafted from previous observed meetings but the researcher is off for the long weekend.
Lawns have been cut, dog has been to the beach, he’s currently asleep by my feet stinking of seawater / wet dog and I’m catching up on the final sessions of the snooker world championship quarterfinals on iPlayer.
