Hoss , please don't do anything for me . You quoted an article from the Spectator which is behind a pay wall . The article itself says the concept ( of black folk building Stonehenge) is contentious. . The part of the article you can access is more against your argument than SLs .

That was a poor attempt at humour, for which I apologiseTreadeager wrote: Sun May 25, 2025 10:43 pm Hoss , please don't do anything for me . As you will have seen immediately after, I'd already found it, so pasted it in.
The Spectator article was the first source I could find for any additional information.
It names the online publication which carried the research findings. Which suggest - no more, it's one sample from the many, many, thousands of people who lived and died here during that period.
However, I had a look for support for the claim that kids are being taught 'black people built Stonehenge' and the furthest I could get is that there's a 'new book' that states it.
The Express tells us:
The claim that Stonehenge was built by black people is made in the book “Brilliant Black British History”, which is used in schools nationwide. The controversial book, written by Nigerian-born British author Atinuke, states that “Britain was a black country for more than 7,000 years before white people came.”
In a way, that's right. Over the years this island has been invaded by Romans, Saxons, Vikings, all sorts
If by 'came' it means 'evolved', then that's probably right too.
This seems to be in the news because:
"according to research by the Policy Exchange think-tank"
Wiki says:
Policy Exchange is a British conservative think tank based in London. In 2007 it was described in The Daily Telegraph as "the largest, but also the most influential think tank on the right"."
I could dig further but, TBH, it's late and I CBA.
Edit: yes, the section I quoted supported Saga's pov. But I did because I'm an unpleasant person, apparently

So to summarise, Dazzle's rant at SL was uncalled for ( but you liked it ? )

I liked it because it highlighted that a. It wasn't light hearted news', b. There was no evidence given other than a paywall link, and c. With the 'woke' jab is should have been posted elsewhere.
FWIW, if SL thinks that kids being incorrectly educated is a joke then he needs to reflect.
Also, the DNA evidence for the population at that time period was based on just one individual. See above for population numbers, etc. The quote about this land originally being populated by people with darker skin is probably correct. But it is one short quite been taken out of a book. That might be as representative as the DNA.
And ... We have no idea - I'd welcome it - that these kids are actually being taught. Or in how many schools, etc.
What we do know, is that it was a Conservative 'think tank' study reported in a Conservative newspaper.
So, no, I don't think woke is a joke and there wasn't much evidence in that first post to support the accusation made.

Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
I apologise.
This story should have gone into the political news thread. I thought the idea of Stonehenge being built by people who looked like Somalians or Nigerians was so risible as to be almost beyond a joke. I was wrong. The Ministry of Truth are probably revising all our history books right now.

PS I blame the teachers. Well, I would if it wasn't half term now, so all the lazy f@ckers are on holiday again
For avoidance of doubt, both these comments (and perhaps this one?) are jokes

It's surely only a matter of time before our canals and railways were built by sub Saharan Africans.

Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
Hey - it could be worse. If we found out that the ancient Brits used slaves from Africa to build Stonehenge, we'd have to pull it down and throw it in the harbour (or River Kennet)Taipan wrote: Mon May 26, 2025 11:22 amBuilding the Grand Union Canal 1910. Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
The article in the Independant earlier this year is a good summary of the "not peer reviewed" work on the skin colour of ancient people. There's a good chance that some pale skinned people were involved in building Stonehenge.

“Things changed afterwards, but very slowly, so that only in the Iron Age did the frequency of light skins equal that of dark skins; during much of prehistory, most Europeans were dark-skinned.”Pirahna wrote: Mon May 26, 2025 1:37 pm The article in the Independant earlier this year is a good summary of the "not peer reviewed" work on the skin colour of ancient people. ie After Stonehenge was complete. But I'm cherry-picking a quote - and that's across the study's definition of Europe.

Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
The flip side of all this is that it points toward the awkward aspect that white people evolved from black people... which I'm not sure is the message they want to say out loud...Mr. Dazzle wrote: Sun May 25, 2025 7:48 pm About to say the same as Hoss.
If you actually look at this story Saga you see that teaching black people built stone henge isn't laughable or ridiculous wokeism...it's potentially true.
I think it was dern who called you out before and I have to agree with him, you genuinely are an unpleasantly prejudiced person.
I know this is the light hearted thread so I'm not going to say any more, but sometimes this of thing is too much IMO.
However, there's also the deal where Celts originated around India, & I don't recall anyone saying Indians were black, altho some are really dark. Conversely, there are some Pakistanis business owners here who are no darker than Italians.

It'll probably come as a shock to some that the 'cradle of civilisation' was in Mesopotamia and not eg Wigan or Essex too.
