And of course, if you have selvedge denim you have to turn the hems up so everyone can see the seam and know you've got selvedge denim. Because having trousers which don't fit is somehow superior.

Hah! I can make my own. (We have a roll of 'red selvedge'). Unfortunately it would have to be dyed, so not look quite like denim )

You could always do some hand indigo dying, that'll bump up the cost a bit.

Denim threads are dyed multiple times anyway, which is why jeans turn white as they wear - you work through the blue outer layers on the threads and expose the white cores as you wear them down. Maybe you could start a new trend of blue jeans which turn red around the knees.

I've done some indigo dyeing (and ice-dyeing and cyanotype-ing and Shibori!)....a friend is into that sort of thing (and teaches it) but she really majors on rust dyeing for her own main output. I'll dig out some pics.

Wrt our stuff it's only the selvedge that is red, the rest is undyed.

I used to work with a guy (on carbon fibre braiding) who previously worked in a Bangladeshi denim mill, so had many long conversations on this topic while stood waiting for some bit of kit He used to get 9ft of denim every year as part of his pay, so he had a few denim three piece suits.

He'll blend in, or could have blended in, in the Netherlands.

TBH, I think my discomfort with the Nudie jeans wasn't really the price (that was more of a justification), it was the worry that I've passed the 'denim age'

Next to them was the Lee display with a Lee denim jacket that I would have given blood for when I was 17.

Just for interest sake, here's a couple of pics of cyanotyped (sun/shadow dyed) red selvedge linen. The process was invented by the son of William Herschel (John Federick William) and was the process used in ye olde 'blueprints'.

Walked out the backdoor at the exact moment a B2 went directly over the house at around 500ft. Most impressive.

Riding along the north coast parallel with one of those stealth bombers heading for Valley.
A Canberra with bomb bay open over my house*.
A Vulcan at near zero feet.
Many 'guppies' carrying Airbus wings.

(Lived near the Aerospace factory and they had an annual air display).

Had a catch up with a mate this morning (with coffee and pastries!) - he's just got back from a long planned trip to the States for his wife's 50th. Before they left he was seriously panicking about the politics, general stuff reported etc. But they had a fab time and as a petrolhead he loved all the older vehicles and even the self driving taxis, and especially the delivery robots (not petrolhead related, but he did take some videos of them !!! )


Then I took my big sewing machine to the sewing machine shop cos it's not working despite a service in November - bloody shop was closed so, gotta go back tuesday !!

Bit gutted that work didn't tell me I had today off work till yesterday afternoon cos I will have had four days off and not been anywhere, but hey - chilling isn't bad !!

Lots of cross stitch this afternoon and an early night with an early alarm set for tomorrow - cos on monday I have to get up at 5am, so might as well get into practice a day early

When I lived in London I think they used the tower block I lived in as a navigation point to line up with the runway at Heathrow. & I lived in the penthouse & was almost 14 miles East of the runways.

I used to play cricket some evenings at Sydenham, Sarf Lunnon when it was in service and you could set your watch by when a particular incoming flight passed over.

I think air traffic control shoved everything else to one side to ensure it landed on time.

Of course, we all stopped playing and watched.....every single time. Not many planes would do that.

Been inside one of the test planes and they're pretty small inside. It was long grounded when I did unfortunately.

I have a photo of me standing on the boundary at Heathrow in line with the runway with an incoming one over my head.

One of the best views was from behind as it took off, looking into the engines. It looked like a blue Hades in there!

Strewth I even remember the name of one of the key test pilots. Brian Trubshaw.
