Her death on December 18 last year was publicly announced this week.
Re: Just Dead Celebrity Express Thread !
It says in the article that it's only just been announced.

More deaths to come now that assisted suicide has been passed.
Personally and for religious reasons I am against this deadly piece of legislation. It seeks to remove the sanctity of life.
The abortion bill earlier this week is another mark of the decline of the value of life.

But: Surely allowing someone in incredible, life altering pain to find some dignity in the end of their suffering is a good thing? Everyone dies, e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e. d.i.e.s. It appears to me that this fact (the one fact in this world that is utterly inarguable), seems to be ignored when this discussion is entered into. To be able to end your own suffering with a modicum of agency would be an absolute blessing to someone facing the rest of their life with never ending pain.
Yes the taking of life is never a great thing, but the release of permanent suffering has to be better than the enforcement of that suffering.
I don't know the details of the bill, but given that it's apparently had over 800 amendments from all sides of the political spectrum i am hoping that the law will be passed because i could certainly see myself being glad of the option under certain circumstances.
And yes, i am also thinking of the "loved ones" who might not want to see me go, but i would not want to put them through the anguish of watching me suffer if i was in the situation where this law might apply.
Oh, and it hasn't been passed into law yet, it's still got to get through the Lords, and another passage through the Commons.
non quod, sed quomodo

I'm also against it, but I'm not to sure why, it just sounds like the wrong thing to me, same goes for the abortion bill, but I do have reasons for that one, but I can't be arsed with an online argument, so I'm keeping my reasons to myself.the_priest wrote: Fri Jun 20, 2025 7:20 pm More deaths to come now that assisted suicide has been passed.

Sorry, I respect your right to believe, but NOT your right to impose those views on others. Sanctity of life? Have a think about Israel, Gaza, Iran, Ukraine. Where is the sanctity of life there? Life is short and brutal.the_priest wrote: Fri Jun 20, 2025 7:20 pm More deaths to come now that assisted suicide has been passed.

Closer to home, I DEMAND the right to end my life if I choose to do so. I don't plan on doing it yet, but I have watched too many family members dying slowly and often in pain when what they wanted was a quick and painless death.

According to the Telegraph:
"NHS services could face cuts to cover the cost of carrying out assisted deaths, the Health Secretary has warned.
"Under the Bill passed on Friday, the NHS will be expected to carry out the assisted dying procedures. Analysis suggests that implementation of assisted dying may cost the health service close to half a billion pounds within a decade, with each death costing the taxpayer more than £15,000."
Tim Wortall's response:
"You can guess, can’t you? Bully a few more of those whoi wouldf cost £50k in treatment costs to take the cheaper option.
"Anyone who does not think this will happen is a fool."

Yeah, the last thing the Telegraph and a few other of the anti lobby organisations is their readership/membership/congregation checking out early.Saga Lout wrote: Sat Jun 21, 2025 2:40 pm According to the Telegraph:

Slightly mixed messages as well. 'It's going to cost billions but people will be encouraged to do it....to save money'.
There's a way to go yet. I expect the Lords will have a few spanners to chuck in the works. Hopefully they'll improve some of the legal details though.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

Is that £15k over and above what it costs when someone dies of natural causes?Saga Lout wrote: Sat Jun 21, 2025 2:40 pm According to the Telegraph:

People should be able to choose to die if they want to.

Re: Just Dead Celebrity Express Thread !
FWIW I'm of the opinion that anyone should be able to die at the time of their choosing and for whatever reason.
Will changes be made to life insurance policies and pensions etc? Currently some are affected if the person covered suicides.
