Lovely route! Any chance of sharing some details? I'd like to do this.Supermofo wrote: Wed Aug 13, 2025 5:35 pm From Sunday but been too busy to sort out pics etc. But better late than never!
Sunday dawned another perfect day for a ride so over a morning coffee I planned a quick rough route then got the bike out and headed off to Maldon again to start as love the Hatfield Heath to Chelmsford Rd, loads of bikes out doing the same as me with little in the way of car traffic. From Maldon I branched off to Inworth just passed Tiptree for a lovely breakfast bagel and another coffee at the Red Dog Cafe
Suitably full I carried on north through Coggeshall, Halstead and on to Clare in Suffolk. Essex/Suffolk can't do the dramatic scenery of the South West or the North, but it can do rolling countryside and chocolate box villages for days![]()
At Clare I decided to pick up an old favourite road across to Cafe 33 near Stradishall which is a bit of a biker Cafe. I noticed on the ride Essex seems to be clinging onto to the Sportsbike flag more than most places, loads about on the ride and a few at the cafe
With Temps rising and time passing I picked up the A134 to Haverhill, across to Radwinter, then down to Dunmow before threading my way back through Hatfield Heath and the hell hole that is Harlow to pick up some bits at Sportsbikeshop. Harlow traffic then done it was a fast blast down the 414 back to Hertford and a cold beer in the garden. Perfect![]()

I'll do my best. I don't have a GPX route but hopefully this link to google maps along with road/place names will give you something to work with. I'll start/finish in Hatfield Heath as no one wants to ride the A414 Hertford/Harlow for no reasonBuckaroo wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 10:40 pm Lovely route! Any chance of sharing some details? https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Hatfiel ... FQAw%3D%3D
1. Hatfield Heath follow the A1060 to Chelmsford
2. Through Chelmsford and follow signs for Maldon/Maldon Road, I think it's the A414 at that point.
3. Come off the A414 after Danbury, signposted to Woodham Walter, before Woodham there's a right by the golf course signposted Maldon, this is the old road into Maldon and is much nicer than sticking to the A414. The road is 'Old London Road'
4. Through Maldon following signs for Heybridge, B1018, then onto the B1022 and follow that to Tiptree.
5. At Tiptree the B1023 to Inworth, Red Dog Cafe on the right in Inworth is decent.
6. B1023 to Feering, then a right/Left on to Coggeshall Road.
7. At Coggeshall go through the town heading to Earls Colne via Colne Road/B1024.
8. Left onto the A1124 to Halsted, follow the Hedingham Rd to the A1017 to Sible Hedingham.
9. Follow the A1017 to Great Yeldham, right onto the North Road/Tilbury road to Tilbury Juxta Clare.
10. Left at Tilbury Juxta Clare onto the Clare road, passing Ovington to Clare itself. Clare's a nice place with a few cafes.
11. From Clare turn left and follow B1063 to Stradishall, then left onto the A143 towards Haverhill. Cafe 33 a biker cafe is on the right not long after you join the A143.
12. Follow A143 through Haverhill and pick up the B1057 to Steeple Bumsted.
13. Right onto the B1054 to Hempsted, Left onto the B1055/B1053 to Great Sampford, then B1051 to Thaxted, left onto the B184 at Thaxted.
14. B184 to Dunmow, B1256 to Takley, then B183 back to Hatfield Heath.

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
First outing for a while today. I was too crocked to ride or drive, but yesterday saw a great improvement.
I went out with the classic boys for an easy run in the sun. Alan Irwin (Da of Glenn and Andy) was among our number and he took a shine to Mr.Blue, but I assured him it would take more than the skills of an Irish champion to be up to the job of taming an H1. Gotta dose these boys some perspective.
Fackin brill weather.

You definitely have a good selection of beautiful old 70s/80s bikes in your neck of the woods, and people that obviously love them, and ride them regularly!Skub wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 4:34 pm First outing for a while today. I was too crocked to ride or drive, but yesterday saw a great improvement.

Took the Street Triple out for a spin earlier.

Took advantage of the weather to go out around Wales for a lovely 5 hours on my own today.
So busy! Had I gone in a car I reckon I'd still be somewhere near Dolgellau at the moment.
