Well they were supposed to be Global knives, but I reckon the wife would kill those in 5 minutes flat so bog basic average blades that I'll not get worked up about instead

Shame, I might have been able to do you a good price on some Global, the 40th Anniversary sets G-52AN7 (there's A, B, C and D versions depending which vendor you get them from).
Still nearly double the price of the Ninja tho'

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
If I could lock them away and reserve them just for my use, I'd have a couple or 3 of 'em, but for some reason the wimmin in the house just abuse knives so I'm loathed to spend decent money on them.

They've got a lifetime warranty, you should see some of the ones that come back, usually with the tips snapped off. They get reshaped, sharpened and sent back.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
I have a 20cm Globan Ukon knife which I don't take much care of but it stands up just fine. Fundamentally it's just a lump of stainless steel after all, there's no real handle or anythingKungFooBob wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 11:23 am They've got a lifetime warranty, you should see some of the ones that come back, usually with the tips snapped off. I was gonna get multiple Globals, but I ended up using this one classic Chef Knife for basically everything and never bothered with more.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
What you want is a GZ-2, now that's a cool knife.
Unless you've got lots of Global stuff, because it doesn't match anything else.
Edit: They're not out yet, it's a limited edition G-2, but in a cool black colour.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
But still stainless?
I can't remember the name of the material (I bet @demographic can) but you can actually get Stainless to "corrode" and form a hard black surface with the right treatment. I've got an old submarine reactor valve which acts as a doorstop which has some of that finish.
Edit: your pic looks like that, hence why the ground edge of the blade is silver.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
I can't find the blurb now, but they're very cool in real life, only making 1000 of them and the uk is getting 300.
No.9 is sat on a desk in the next office, Id like to steal it.

I've got those. They work really well, but I can never use that fiddly, bastard sharpener well enough!MrLongbeard wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 10:43 am Well they were supposed to be Global knives, but I reckon the wife would kill those in 5 minutes flat so bog basic average blades that I'll not get worked up about instead

I have IKEA stainless knives and forks done in the same finish, I suspect IKEA made meeeellions of them.KungFooBob wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 1:00 pm I can't find the blurb now, but they're very cool in real life, only making 1000 of them and the uk is getting 300.

The knife block / sharpener has already been consigned to the shed, I've got a Victorinox sharpener for cheap kitchen knives.Taipan wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 1:13 pmI've got those. Thought possibly phosphate (zinc?) coating but I've never seen that done on stainless.
Mebbe possible, I've just not seen it done.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
They frit me up, those really sharp knives.
There's one in the kitchen but I very rarely use it as I worry I'd cut myself. I do use it to take the skin off fish but that's it.
I have some short, serrated Victorinox kitchen knives which I think were about £6 each and they're perfect for most of my needs.

Never bothered cleaning a chain before, just banged more on top
But this is all they had in local shop. Cleaner is amazing and comes with cool cleaning brush.
And the lube doesn't fling off. Very pleased

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Decided it was time to relegate these to non-bike-riding duties as they may be on the verge or failing.
Or not? They've been excellent - think I've had them 5 years. They are genuinely waterproof - or a least 96.48% - are comfy and have a good CE rating, not that I've tested it. The laces are still perfect, too, tiny point but worth making.
I've ordered the exact same pair again today.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Full carbon fibre SUP paddle. Also converts to kayak paddle. Daughter has a Temu app and I came across it for £70. Decent full CF paddles are 4 times that usually so I took a punt and ordered it.
It’s arrived and it seems really decent. Good quality and lovely and light. It will probably snap the first time I use it

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
New dinner suit for black tie events as previous one no longer fits me as it's falling off me
Today's purchase was two sizes smaller, jacket and trousers, than the suit I bought in April for a wedding and tailored fit rather than regular fit. Shirt collar size down over an inch as well
At 3 st 10lb lighter I need a whole new wardrobe
On a related note, what's the deal with Vinted for selling clothes?

Wifey uses it. Take pictures and set your price, anyone interested will then haggle until a price is agreed. Pack it up and send it off. You won't the go to send it until they've payed for it, when they receive it you get the money. The payment includes postage.Silly Car wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 6:49 pm
