Flithy computer screen - what cleaner?

Wifey keeps on think that the computers we have, are touch screens. She also likes to bathe her hands in hand screen 100x day ... so the screens look like someone has fired yoghurt at them.

I am buggered if I m going to pay Amazon 20 GBP for 750 ml of "Screen Wonder Clean" - what can I use and not bugger them up?

Any old glass cleaner works fine

As an aside, I worked at a company designing equipment for the TV industry.

Just as [then very expensive] flat screens were coming in, I was sat with one of the demo artists, looking at a massive monitor.

Which he was prodding with the point of a pencil, hard enough that the image was changing colour there.

The stuff that you spray on specs to clean 'em works fine for me.

I bought a couple of boxes of Lidl glasses lens cleaner wipes to try and prevent me using whatever I'm wearing !!

Hasn't stopped me doing that for the glasses, but the lens cleaner wipes were bloody brilliant on my laptop screen - not that it's touch screen and nor do I use hand cream, but somehow the screen gets a bit icky (not 'that' kind of icky !! )

Isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Also known as "rubbing alcohol" when diluted with water.

Amazing stuff for cleaning purposes, even for handwash.

I use it neat but test on a small portion of a screen in case it uses some cheap coating which might react. I have never had any issues but you never know.

Dilute washing up liquid is good but use a soft microfibre cloth. Kitchen roll is often not so good bcause it now has embedded chemicals which leave a residue. In bad cases I use glass cleaner sold for cars but it must be safe for instrument screens not just for glass, don't spray it directly apply it to a clean cloth.

wet rag followed by dry t-towel usually does the trick, just don't rub too hard
