Thermal Sippy type travel cup for coffee ??

Sippy type cos I want a cup with a flip up bit so I can drink from it without having to unscrew/take off the lid!!

Needs to be thermal (keeping coffee at a decent temperature for a couple or three hours) cos I make it before I leave home and then take it to work - my pretty simple Senseo one worked well in the summer, but it's now too cold for it to stay warm

Doesn't matter if it won't fit in a cup holder as I don't drive many vehicles with those - so it's almost preferable to have a wide ish base, just not too tall (I'm only putting a small mug of coffee in it, not a bucket full!!), I have to drive so it doesn't fall over; this works till the cup is empty but then I can put it back in my bag!!


I've currently got this which is totally big enough at 350ml (could probably manage with 300 or 250ml - but would need to measure when I make coffee in the morning!!). It is only plastic and not very thick so whilst good for hot drinks in summer, definitely no good in a cold bus in winter in the Alps!!!

But - I've bought a couple of thermos type things in the last year that either leak or just aren't very good - add in having some brain issues at the mo so need help, so hoping someone has a recommendation??

I've tried many cups like those and they are rarely leak proof and not good insulators. Would a small vacuum flask you pour a cup from work for you?

It works for the coffee, I do have one. But I'm looking for simple cos it's generally something I can drink at pick up points on the school run.

I suppose I could tip the flask into the travel cup at the first stop (usually have a few mins pause before I start, but then, there's no snow on the road at the moment, so I might not have time in proper winter!)


Bizarrely, the Senseo cup is pretty damn good in all other ways. Occasionally a bit of coffee leaks out on the lid (so no drops on anything nearby) but that's usually when I've tipped it - yesterday I literally flipped it, caught it before it hit the ground and nothing had leaked at all


I suppose it doesn't have to be 100% on that point, the biggest thing is the thermos bit - I'm 'getting used' to drinking cold coffee, but it's not very nice

Flip open lids never seal well when I've had them, and there are alternatives which allow one handed drinking

TBF, it doesn't Have to stand up without a holder as long as it won't leak!! Most of the vehicles have a space for a bottle/cup etc, but not often an actual holder (that I can reach with my left hand!).

But that does look pretty cool TBH, and if it definitely doesn't leak then that's fine I'll have a proper look in the morning



(I've given up on water bottles now - I need a sports top jobbie so I don't have to undo the lid and there are almost none around, so I end up buying a 750ml bottle of water and using that until it gets dented too much and starts to leak, then I buy another one )

None are great, but this is the best one I've found. Easy to drink from, doesn't leak, stays hot for a lot longer than expected.

Btw, the less air in the bottle/cup, the longer it'll keep warm.

I'm fairly sure that last time this came up I suggested Thermos stainless travel king mug or tumbler (the mug has a handle and the tumbler doesn't so fits into a smaller space) as it can take a bit of hammer, can be tipped upside down without leaking and keeps my coffee warm longer than any other I've used.
I do have to take it apart and remove the seals to clean em once in a while.

Yet another vote for Contigo.

I’ve got a couple that I use in the house but unfortunately they’re too broad at the base to fit in a car cup holder.

I’m considering buying one that I could take in the car tho.

Today I took a larger coffee mug/travel thing with me that I'd found out yesterday (only a cheap Temu jobbie) - it's too big (I don't need that amount of coffee that early!!) but it is metal inside.

It's shape is useless as doesn't fit in the cup holder in my car but also tapers too much at the base to stand up when I'm driving the bus . So, I've added the Contigo to my 'basket' on Amazon

Despite being too big and only having a plastic lid, the coffee was warm enough a bit over an hour later to drink without wincing

Soo - looking forward to the other one arriving at the end of the week so I can test in on Sunday morning - cos I have to be at work at 3:50 so it will be serious cold and I will need serious coffee - might even take the flask for when I arrive at GVA

My extensive testing has led to these requirements...

- Needs a firm or ideally, rubber coated bottom
- Needs a rubber like o-ring to keep the lid-on, the ones that rely on tight plastic fit fail over time
- Prefer Metal on the outside, plastic inner
- Needs a handle OR needs to be a grippy external surface (get's slippery when wet if it's metal and no handle).

I'm currently testing one I found on my beach tide line last week, I'll report back

To add to this, now I'm not hurried: T'other half has vivid, often fairly violent dreams courtesy of his blood pressure medication (Ramipril), and as a result pretty often flails around in the night - hence the need for a very non spill cup for him to have on his bedside table.

I read a LOT of reviews to find something suitable, and the Contigo has proved that it deserves its write-up, it's gone flying on multiple occasions and the bedroom remains unscathed
