If you were a contestant on Master Mind

Post by Buckaroo »

What would be your chosen subject?

How many points would you score?

I'd go for either the life of Jimi Hendrix or The Lord of the Rings.

Not too shabby at general knowledge, so I reckon a solid 16 give or take.

Don't have a specialist subject*, just know a little bit about lots of things, so I'd be ok on the general knowledge round. Given time to revise from scratch I'd choose something like 'the life of Guillaume de Machaut' or 'Crusader castles'

* I don't think that the incorporation of nitrogen in oxide glasses or the heat treatment of sintered tool steels would qualify.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

Oh God, I've just realised the only thing I know well enough to have as a specialised subject without any studying is IPv4 addressing and routing.

I did that over the years to a lesser extent. I had to know lots of stuff to be a DBA.

Had you asked about 15/20 years ago i would have said car tail lights. I spent to many years working nights and doing lots of motorway miles. To relieve the boredom i would guess the car tail lights as i approached them and got that good at it. I got to the stage where i seldom got one wrong.

Yes, that's pretty easy really, and if you understand the binary you'll understand subnet masking

I learnt how to do it for the CCNA, then discovered I was using the book for the previous version of the exam, DOH!

Last time I did a CCNA was about 15 years ago and the exam decided to ask loads of questions about VTP, something I hadn't bothered learning because it's basically useless, I scraped a pass with 828 points, pass was 825. The previous CCNA I did was nearly all ipv4 addressing and routing, I got nearly 1000 points in that one. I can't be arsed to do them now, my side kick at work thinks he's going to get a CCNP by March, he's done zero studying so far.

Pretty much full marks on that

If the view is that we need 4 subjects, then I'm not strong in anything really but I'd go for:

* The life and times of Samuel Bellamy

* Jurassic 5: 1993-2002

* The films of Veronica Avluv

* The 'Biology of Human Starvation' (Minnesota starvation experiment, 1944-5)
