Hates driving in the dark and wet, has a stupid low down sports car and refuses to change it because it's perfect in the daytime and dry weather.

We live in East Lancs

Parking is shocking, all alloys are kerbed and she manages to hit every pothole going, hate being a passenger with her to the point that I'll do 80% of the driving when we go to France. She only gets to do the quiet motorway bits. Although that comes with the danger of Speed Cameras and her heavy right foot. Woke up from a nap once and she was sat at 150kmh

Other than not looking at her speedo her observation skills with regards to other cars and traffic is better than mine.

She can reverse park far better than me. Often I've baulked at a tight space and she just wangs it in

Mine used to drive lots and lots of miles but couldn't (still can't) park for toffee.

Good passenger, often spots things I might have missed. Could be annoying for some but when she says 'I think the traffic has stopped up ahead' that's fine by me, even if I've clocked it. Passenger has a slightly different viewing angle.

I used to be able to park just fine, even the transit.

Now, I can put a bus in a space with no issues (reversing, they don't go into a kerbside space very well forwards!) - but my car?? Can't park it straight for love or money usually Although the other day I did manage to reverse park it pretty much perfectly, I was very shocked!! (as were the guys in the work vehicule that were watching me !!)


Does the rounded shape of modern cars make it more difficult? My mirrors don't show the lower side, wheels, front or back edges - they are basically only good for seeing traffic behind, total shit show for manoeuvres of any sort

IIRC, my car can dip the mirrors when reverse is engaged solving some of those issues ^^^^..if I can remember how to turn that function on.

It's the one thing we'll argue over. She seems to ignore lanes and will straighten out a roundabout etc. She also drives too close to the kerb for reasons only known to herself.

She's also weird in as much as she doesn't like driving anything other than her beloved mini. She was going out with her mates one time, so i said to take my Range Rover rather than all cram into her mini, but she said no, she only likes driving her car. Same when we've had convertibles. She loves going in mine for a drive on a sunny day, but will never take the car instead of hers!

When we got the campervan we were driving back from Norfolk and she said I'd best have a drive of this. So I said sure and pulled over and let her drive and she drove it better than anything else as she was conscious of lane procedure. When I asked why she wanted to drive it, she replied that, in case I had a heart attack or something, she didn't want the camper van left behind. I think she meant well.

Oh, and another thing I like about having the missus along as 'co-pilot' is that I don't have to remember how to parse voice commands (which I never bothered learning In the first place).

In my car the environmental controls are down by my left knee so 'Demist please' or 'heated seat, one light' works perfectly and I can focus on the driving bit.

In her (Japanese) car the car/human interface is just appalling so ditto. I much preferred her MX5s - when they still maintained some of the 'Keep It Simple Stupid' philosophy.

I find the emphasis on software rather than driving quite depressing whenever they give me a current vehicle as a courtesy car when mine goes in for service.

Would I dare tell her though? Would I fuck, tried it once, didn't go well...

Funny thing is, she's happier just using the camera for reversing than I am...

I've freaked a few people out when backing the F350 into a space. People don't expect a 30yo truck to have a back-up cam.. which I'll use to get within 2in of whatever is behind me. The 5 mirrors are great up to that point.

My wife is half blind these days but I'm confident she could drive better than half the drivers around here

Her driving isn’t bad but she’s got no mechanical sympathy. I’ve managed to solve that by getting an automatic car.

She’s got several annoying faults but it’s not worth the aggro trying to get her to change.

Half the trouble is she doesn’t know a thing about cars and is completely amazed to learn about something as useful to know as a torque curve.

Ditto, automatic solved it.

She's very good at the 'hazard perception' stuff, but very lacking in confidence.

And that lack carries over to when being a passenger. All our cars have had a 'brake pedal'-sized dent in the floor.

I also have some views on Mrs CJs driving, but I have learned to keep them to myself. She is not dangerous but sometimes doesn't plan ahead, and definitely lacks confidence in driving through narrow gaps.
