So would you think it is acceptable to see Mrs Brown's Boys, Mr Blobby, and Strictly Come Dancing as the fabric of our culture?

It's no skin off my nose if a lot of people like them. I don't, but people I like get entertainment from stuff like that. To judge them by what they like vs what you like is about as arrogant as it gets.

Also it used to be a pain when the stuff I didn't want to watch was on when I wanted to watch something but who watches stuff like that any more?

In that case you can add the dismal dirge that we call the National Anthem.
I vote we bring back the verse about Marshal Wade and the rebellious Scots. :P :P

But I like Andy Warhol's work - as a person he was comtemptable.

Any other suggestions?
Thank goodness it was "they" who suggested those cultural icons are undeserving of the moniker. "They" are obviously publicity seeking morons.

The Beatles in particular were extraordinarily gifted musicians. And just how the fuck can anyone in their right mind criticise the work of Mozart! He was a genius of such incredible rarity, it beggars belief that some nobody wannabee shock jock would have the temerity to suggest otherwise.

Anyhow, to answer the question: I give you LS Lowry. A talentless so called artist whose work struggles to reach the level of childish scribble.

Iain M Banks, the sci fi writer. Everyone raves about his works. They're a bit meh if you ask me, I thought it was due to the first book I read (Use of Weapons) so tried about 3 more and they are all the same, some lovely little bits of story and characters but far too much navel gazing and padding.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

Someone is going to have to point out to me where the Beatles showed that they were extraordinaryily accomplished musicians, IMO calling them average is being generous.

I also think The Catcher in the Rye is massively overrated. Nothing happens. It's pap.

I am not a Beatles fan, but I do understand that they changed the way the music industry works forever.

George Harrison's 'Here Comes the Sun', when sung by Nina Simone, is cracking, by the by.

In that case, I submit: 'our' royal family. Beyond being a tourist attraction, I see no point in them

I started the talentless tossers thread on VD where I named him as one of the worst live singers I've ever heard. I got hell for it!
Was it as bad as Fallen Angel defending U2?
She'll hunt you down just after she's done Taipan.
To many name changes since she left TRC. Feels like address changes to dodge the pole tax

A reporter asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world....

Lennon: "He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles..."

Ringo was no Ginger Baker, but he wasn't a bad drummer by any means.

The weakest musically was John Lennon IMO, listen to him playing bass on Helter Skelter, he's all over the place, why the fuck Macca didn't play it, Ill never know.

He grew up in the same area as me, MrsJawa is actually from the same street as him and not one single person from round there has a good word to say about him, basically he's an angry ginger midget with a chip on his shoulder who made some half decent records 50 odd years ago. His mother was a nice wee woman though apparently.

He held a concert on one of the most affluent streets in Belfast that he wrote a song about, yet totally ignored the area he grew up in, 500m away.

Now he sounds like the aul gouger sitting in the corner of the bar grumbling into his pint, especially with his COVID rantings.
Nick Mason:
"I was once out to dinner several years ago with about ten really well-known drummers, all of whom I have enormous respect for and admire. For some reason, we got onto the subject of Van Morrison. One of them said, 'Hands up everyone who’s been fired by Van Morrison!' And nine out of ten put their hands up into the air."
