Barry Sheene gets his knee down Transatlantic Oulton 1977
End of the first race Sheene is showing off the holes in his leathers where he'd been sliding his knee. Interesting that he had plastic knee protector in his leathers back in 77.

My little Barry Sheene story.
It was late '82 or possibly early '83. My girlfriend at the time was an Audiologist at the Royal Surrey in Guildford. A name on the list for an appointment on this day, was a Mr Sheene. She thought nothing of it until into the Reception waddled Barry. She recognised him straight away as she was herself a bit of a biker. He was attending for a hearing test as part of his medical after his big off at Silverstone, in order to get his Licence for 83.
She told me about the conversation, and knowing her she was probably a bit flirty. Knowing of him, it was probably reciprocal.
The conversation was obviously about Bikes and Bike racing, with Barry suggesting to her that "your Boyfriend should give it a try"
I'm sure as he was saying that, he was thinking of giving her a try, and why not, she had a certain sparkle that she found made her rise up the greasy pole of the entertainment business that much easier.
