EP8 returned from E-Motor repairs. £179 later and a nice tight feeling motor with some new bearings. Re-fitted, which is a total faff as the wiring harness is naff and if you're not careful it's easy to pinch some of the cabling. Anyway, all bolted up with a new 36T chain ring, new jockey wheels and yay, no error codes on a quick test spin.

I do wonder why they can't make things easier, my Orbea was awful to get the motor back in, getting it out wasn't that simple either in truth

Agreed... Couldn't believe how much of a faff it was considering it was only 6 bolts! Everything is so tightly packaged in there and it's like you need multiple hands to squeeze everything in there at the same time.

New bike is sooooooo much better in this regard. Not just because the battery comes out of the downtube, but the 2 bolt Bosch Gen5 motor setup makes removal and installation a lot more simple.

Looked at my cleats, ooops, time for renewal! Fortunately all the screws came out OK after gouging the mud out of the heads.

Rode to work in the rain and now my SEEMEE 300 tail light has stopped working (it is only 9 months old), it charges but won't turn on. Checked the Magicshine website and it is a 2 year warranty so one last go at charging it overnight and if it doesn't work it will be an email to Merlin Cycles for a warranty replacement. This is annoying as it is nice and bright and also has a down firing LED that illuminates your back legs and puts a nice red puddle on the floor.

Not quite today, but recently picked up some new wheels for my hardtail XM481 and Bitex hubs. Rides nicer than the WTB/NP hubs and a smidge lighter. Did give it a good clean after a typically sloppy winter ride.

I'm yet to see a freehub that doesn't look like that after some winter UK riding, it's just that we as riders rarely look in that area that closely, but you can bet your arse it'd look just like that on 99% of them. I know ours certainly have in the last few months. It does honestly amaze me though how water gets in there so much lol.

It had been a very wet long weekend on Dartmoor, we even saw the Dartmoor Submarine Rescue service out on a “shout”

Decided to fit a set of carbon bars to the Trek - not sure that saving 100g off something that weighs the same as the Death Star would make a lot of difference.
But I hd them and the would reduce trail buzz whne I eventiully get back on the bike.
Spent a good 40 mins faffing around with Treks choice of hex head / torx of all different size.

Got all the controls in place where I like them, match the bars up to the stem.

And it's the wrong sodding size ...

Washed road bike, re-waxed chain and fitted cleats to new shoes but this was a bit problematic as one of the screws didn’t seem to want to go in, after much faffage it turns out it was due to this:

Solved by scrounging a bolt out of my old shoes.

Cleaned E bike drive train, new chain fitted and re greased jockey wheel bearings. Booked rear Hub service as I could feel a notchy bearing in the free hub. God knows what else they'll find when they open it up.

Well that’s me fishing the old chain out of the bin. Smallest 5 cogs skipped all night. Speaking to my LBS mate, unless you change/rotate chains at the first sign of wear on an E Bike you might as well just run the transmission to destruction.

It's only going to get worse, not better with things like the new Avinox M2S which is 1500w or power, i mean 1500w !!!!! Come on guys, seriously. There's Pro-Tour sprint speed, that's better than the best humans

It seems it gives 800%, so to get 1500w you need a human input of approx 187w. Which isn't a small number for some, but is more than an average Joe can sustain for more than a few minutes... but in a 'cyclist' term, it's not that high a number to hit. 187w gives you 1500w... Jeepers.

I had a quick spin on the first gen Avinox in an Amflow and power was silly, maybe fun for a kick-start-esque/trials course with silly climbs, obstacles and steps to boost over but that sort of terrain is few and far between and just too much for trail riding. One of the riders I bump into in the Forest has an Amflow and initially he'd set it more full power but he's dialled it back as it was just too much and unusable.

I'm still happy with my EP8, I'd prefer they went for better reliability, a 22mph top end (seriously, 16mph when I'm commuting over the Downs is just painful, its banging in and out of drive continually) and more range out of the batteries for grand days out or smaller lighter batteries for normal days.

On the road bike I can hold 18-22mph on a still day on the cycle path, hence the 22mph limit suggestion.

As an article I read said, physics is still physics and more power = faster battery drain.

That's the thing isn't it... No matter how powerful you make it, it'll only last as long as the battery capacity allows.

I rode the M2S yesterday in an Amflow, only uphill on a fire-road, but it was incredibly fast.. So so powerful. But we never got to play on a trail on it.
