Busy productive day

2 x dog walks
2 x visits to two separate Post Offices as the first couldn’t get the Amazon return QR code to scan
2 x work emails received and sent between 9am and 2pm before I switched on O.O.O.
Delivered hampers containing limoncello, sloe gin, chocolate orange Baileys style liqueur, anchovy & olive biscuits and Malteser tiffin, all home-made, including the orange liqueur in the chocolate orange Baileys concoction to their recipients

Started food preparation for tomorrow:

• Made a chocolate steamed pudding and chocolate sauce

• Boned out and stuffed a chicken with pork, apple, sage and onion stuffing

• Wrapped some chipolatas in streaky bacon to be coated in apple caramel sauce once cooked

• Wrapped some halloumi in streaky bacon to be coated in hot honey once cooked

• Made a jug full of cheese sauce ready for cauliflower cheese

• Juiced a load of carrots to cook chantenay carrots in tomorrow with the reduced juice acting as a sauce (fingers crossed)

Currently waiting for beef joint (tomorrow’s main event) and pulled pork (for sausage rolls) to defrost so they can go into the fridge.

Dog walk, fika with the neighbours (she's Swedish), packed t'other half off up north, prepped for hosting my parents tomorrow (peeling, mashing, par-boiling, pigs-in-blanketing, etc), visited friends for cheese and fizz, home.

Had hoped to get a quick parental visit for another coat of emulsion in, but ran out of day. Ho hum.

I got up early this morning to drive up to resort and go for a ski tour. After last week I had no expectations of going very far, and so I got a cable car from where I park in Plagne Centre to another bit of the resort called Aime 2000. Kinda cheating but the easiest chance of getting to the top of a mountain on foot (although I was under no illusions of that happening today Although some friends rightly pointed out last week that if I start there, I have more chance of getting to the top of one!!)

I started walking down by those buildings




Got a decent amount of the way up when the sun started making an appearance




I always end up touring and skiing down in the shade at this time of year because although it's light, where we are means the sun doesn't come over very early. But today, cos I was on a different mountain, I actually was in the sun before I got to my stopping point! I even had a sun shadow (normally only get moon shadows cos I usually start a lot earlier!!)




This was were I had planned to stop walking up. The view was seriously cool, although Mont Blanc was hidden in clouds, but actually they kinda made the view awesome too. But once I got there, I could see the marker for a red piste I love and it wasn't that far away, so I thought, fck it, keep going ! I mean, a good idea, very positive but see below for further comments






So, Samba is a fab piste to play on; sunny earlier than the other ones into Centre that I like, but a slight challenge cos after a good blue/red start there's an almost hidden steep bit that has caught me out a few times - as in, if you forget it's there and don't bend ze knees at a certain point, you do 'get air', which is never my plan nowadays




So, I forgot all that as I walked up to the marker. Deskinned and set the boots back to ski and then realised, I'm just on the lip of the really steep bit! With legs tired from the walk up and no chance of a warm up ski Sooooo. A little bit of Samba before breakfast is interesting for the digestion and definitely elevates the adrenaline (especially cos it was a smidge icy and the bit I skied down was still in the shade )




But hey - I got to see the sun rise for the first time on the piste this season, I didn't crash on Samba, I spent a bit of recovery time at my favourite cafe and saw some of my favourite Fronch and then meet some of my favourite English for a hot choc and came home




Now sat in my chair in front of the fire that I'm putting off lighting for a bit longer! Cheese on toast as a snack when I got back (well after I set the fire ready and had a hot shower!!) - pizza in the freezer for dinner and a plan to chill this evening



Strava says I did a bit less than a kilometre (0.84km) up in 34 mins , which includes the stoppages to look at the view (catch my breathe!!)

Apparently it was 138m of altitude/elevation I walked up So I guess that's a decent amount for only the second walk up!

Total distance including the ski down was 2.32km and 25mins of 'movement' - given the decent is about 3-4 mins, I reckon that's not a bad time/climb !!!

Now to organise my spare room with the yoga mat and the weird step machine so I can try and improve my fitness outside of doing the touring (next one planned on New Year's Day)

Three Christmas Services. Main Midnight Service and two morning Christmas Day services. All well attended. Now transferring Whatsapp from Android to Iphone. What a total palaver. The Move to IOS app does not work on the Android, so have to find another route.
No they are not midgets, I am really tall.

The BBQ/bonfire pit had expired so tried to buy another same size.
Nowt available and about 400€ to have one man made.

Looked around and decided I could make one from shelving units.

1m x 50cms. Turned ends up to make basic shell.

1m x 30cms. Cut into strips to stick on front and back with rivets.

Cut big sheet with millions of holes and propped up with long m6 bolts.

80cms x 30cm. Cut and shaped to fit as sides to the whole thing.
It'll be off when BBQ is lit. But in place when we bonfire to protect the bricks.

Not too bad for a complete novice

Made a bit of a mistake at work that could have been a bastard of one, but luckily, due to traffic, it made not a lot of difference

Normally, I get to the depot at my start time, get stuff I need and then do the vehicle checks and put my card in, because I've generally been at work for 10-15 mins before the card goes in, I manually adjust the start time.

Today I had to start at 4.50am but the bus wasn't due to arrive for me to drive until 5.15 ish (another driver drove up to La Rosière to get the passengers and then came back to the depot with the bus) - I got in the bus a set my card as usual, so start time as 4.50

Of course, with the trip from Lyon to Aime taking 5.5hours (including a 45 minute stop for me) and the proced of getting from plane-airport-coach park taking a few hours, I ran out of working time (we get 14 hours a day that we can be clocked on - that's start to finish, it doesn't stop for pauses of less than 9 hours! (I think!!).

I called the office to say I wasn't going to make the original place I planned my 30 min stop and that I'd have to stop in Moutiers, and then had to tell them that I had to take my card out at 18H50 - after my break that only gave me 1 h10 to get up to La Rosière !!

Luckily, due to traffic, that 30 min fck up actually didn't make any difference as I still wouldn't have made it, but damn I felt stoopid !!

Stopped in Aime to meet another driver to take the bus up to La Rosière and back!! Then got a lift back to the depot! Only finished 20 mins before I had to stop but if that rule hadn't been in place I'd have finished at least 2 hours later !!

Good thing about Sunday transfers - the traffic is not like Saturday!! So I should be able to do all the driving without any worries. Downside is that I have a few hours sitting around at Geneva


But hey ho, probably back on half days next week cos no school runs

Had a filling replaced. Again. This time with something called biodentine. Hopefully this time the temperature sensitivity will go away

Yesterday, I bought some new trainers, running tops, socks, jacket and leggings then ran 4.5miles in 51 mins 10 seconds.

Today, I’m trimming to final size and lipping plywood shelves in tulipwood for new cabinets, just had to order some new saw blads as current one has blunted. New ones should arrive this evening.
