I forgot all about this, sorry.

The C2W fairies have just delivered this years care package which included a pair of Minions, a longer dropper post and slightly higher and wider bars.
The bars make the riding position pretty much identical to my whyte which I really like, and ditto with the post, the seat actually gets right down out of the way now.

The transformation of grip with the tyres is night and day, I went with DHR II front and rear. I was nudged that way by the LBS (slam 69) and then I saw that the Spectral comes with this combo from the factory so it must work, right? And yes, they do, very well.
By the end of today's ride I was starting to get some confidence in the front, but was still expecting it to let go in every bit of mud as the nobby nic does, but it never did.

I'll be back to crashing soon 🥳

I've been having lots of tyre debates lately but maxxis are not really on my radar. I've got a dhr as well in loft, well, I've got most tyres in the loft in truth

you've got your very own loft (and garage) of plenty :D

I'm happy on the Maxxis because that's what I've had on the Whyte for 3 years, but they are DHR & Assegai

It is, the colour is a bit more vivid in the flesh and that's one of the reasons that it has become my go-to bike. Garmin suggests nearly 700 miles since april which is pretty good for me.

I've just been chatting to MrsTaff about next year's C2W and getting a Spectral, Pinkbike's No1 trail bike of the year which is quite something looking at the competition, it's only 10mm more travel than this so should still do what I want and will work out about £150 PM, but obviously lots can change in the next 11 months.

About 3/4 or my riding time is still on the neutron, the whyte eeb is only really getting used when I'm doing up down, up down singletrack type riding, So the bulk of my milage is on the little blue one and just recently I've had one cog on the cassette where the chain would just not running right, and making an annoying clicking noise all the fecking time.

I tried adjusting the shifting but it's never went, chucked a new chain on and the fcker still clicked away.
So I bunged a new cassette on and lovely silence has been restored. As a side bonus, it reminded me how sweet the shifting should be, I hadn't noticed that it had gone a bit rubbish🤣

Damn, I haven't added anything to this thread for over 6 months.

I had thoughts about swapping this in for a spectral, but after having the forks and shock serviced, and Sprung working some magic, back at the beginning of the year the handling was transformed and the front felt way more planted, And I stopped crashing from losing the front, yay.

So thoughts of changing it kind of went away so I've just been enjoying the bike

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that I was having pedal strikes all over the place, and a bit embarrassed to say it took a long time to figure out what was going on - the shock was sucked down so it and the forks went off to sprung again.
This weekend I replaced the bottom bracket with the Hope one that @mboy sent me last week (thank you), new galfer pads and brake bleed.

First ride today with the new BB and spinning felt easier, I don't know if it's a placebo, my legs were just feeling good, or if the bearing really does make a difference.

First climb was a Strava pb

Nice to see you today. Lucky you never came out, I got a dead tyre right up top by the step up and had to get Ceri to come rescue me. Job 1 for tomorrow, see what’s gone on there

Cracking end to 2025. I popped up to Cannock Chase on Sunday, the place was absolutely rammed and loads of people on the trail but it was a good day out.
It looks like there's a problem there with surons or mx bikes straight lining some of the zig zag climbs but it doesn't affect the MTB trail to much.

Today was a day out at CwmFuckingCarn.
I have no idea why I keep going back, I fucking hate the climbs there, you just can't get into a pedaling rhythm. The downs are a different story though. They're great fun.

I usually do a lap of Twrch using road for first half of climb. Then back up for a lap of DH

It’s a hilly bugger though for sure.

You ridden much of the off piste there?

Did a big day out there back end of summer with a few mates who knew the area, what a ride! Some of the steepest, techiest stuff I've ridden full stop, but also some really good more flowing trails too... Just shy of 2km climbing over 50km ridden, I was glad of the 800Wh battery on my Crafty as I had less than 20% of it left by the end!

Glad you got the BB ok @Taff ... Still enjoying the Canyon Neuron by the looks of things...? I've got the lightweight eBike version of it now too (the Neuron OnFly) and loving it!

yeah, that's a big part of it, but there's a strong whiff of 'type 2 fun' waking up this morning with aches in the legs knowing that I may have struggled and walked some of the steeper bits but I got to the top to enjoy the downs. :bblonde:
Type 2 fun describes experiences that are miserable, difficult, or even painful in the moment but become enjoyable and rewarding in retrospect, often involving overcoming significant physical or mental challenges like ultramarathons, long backpacking trips, intense rock climbing, or winter camping, leading to increased resilience and self-belief. It's the "suffering fun" that builds character and creates lasting, proud memories, unlike Type 1 fun (instant gratification) or Type 3 (pure misery).

That makes sense - I get that sometimes with ski touring. Mostly I quite the going up before it gets to type 2, but on the flip side there are days when I will just keep going up out of dogged determination/stubborness/something to prove I can - the ski down is amazing and the feeling of satisfaction that I made it further than before wirth it but I do hurt the next day :)

I was thinking that I'd had this bike for a year, but the date on this thread means that I've had it for 2 years and I've never even so much as looked at the frame bearings.

So today is the day.

To be fair most of them are not too bad but at least half of them are beyond their best.
