The toilet snorkel was created as an emergency survival device for high-rise residents in the event of a fire.
The idea was to provide a way for someone trapped in a smoke-filled apartment to breathe safely while waiting for rescue. The device consisted of a flexible tube that could be connected to a toilet or other water outlet, extending through a window or vent to reach fresh air outside the building.
Its design leveraged the principle of drawing air from outside while filtering or bypassing smoke and heat in the immediate area. The snorkel aimed to give people enough breathable air to survive until firefighters or other rescuers arrived.
