Similar - we're supposedly planning our wedding, but it keeps taking a back seat to virtually anything (we know the where, and a couple of other details, but that's it so far - it's not a problem though. The Martian wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:40 pm Think we're planning to get married this year but we haven't made any plans further than looking at a few venues online. The better half finishes Uni in June so has a new career to embark on. I might also change career again if I'm still struggling after she has settled in.
What is 2026 destined to bring or hoping/planning to bring anyway ?

Ah yes, the old joke: I can remember where and I can remember when. I just can't remember why.Rockburner wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 4:06 pmSimilar - we're supposedly planning our wedding, but it keeps taking a back seat to virtually anything (we know the where, and a couple of other details, but that's it so far - it's not a problem though. The Martian wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:40 pm Think we're planning to get married this year but we haven't made any plans further than looking at a few venues online. Ahh... marriage; blessed sanctity which made my life so sweet.
I might do it again this year. Then again, I might not.

Re: What is 2026 destined to bring or hoping/planning to bring anyway ?
Started a new job today. Seem a good bunch of people, the role itself is very similar to what I've been doing for the last 6 ish years, but without delivery responsibility, and therefore also without a team.
Which is very different, and I don't know if I'm going to love it or hate it. I am told I'm a good people manager and I really like people, but the quality of overall delivery at the last place drained me of a lot of joy, so the change sounded nice. Let's see.
I had also hoped to drop down to a nine-day fortnight, but they weren't having it. Maybe I'll wow them with my amazingness and get that to happen by the end of the year. Or maybe not.
I also need to get new garage doors - had a look at some during garden leave, but need to make a decision and get them ordered.
I want to get our landing 'library' project finished. Had hoped to get that done during garden leave, but I prioritised the parents house project, and ran out of time.
I'd also like to get a kitchen extension planned. I keep procrastinating about it because I don't enjoy choosing builders etc. Plus it'll cost an arm and a leg, I have no doubt, which I will also not enjoy
Oh, and do a bike touring holiday. It's been an age.

I don't understand why anybody would want to do it again, aside from for tax reasonsMyLittleStudPony wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 6:03 pm Ahh... marriage; blessed sanctity which made my life so sweet.

Re: What is 2026 destined to bring or hoping/planning to bring anyway ?
I'm just hoping to hang in there for 2026!
2025 from August bought me retirement, then a new job, also moved house, 2 new cars, a new motorbike, all in the space of 6 wks. It was far too much to do and i've really suffered for doing it. I feel really unsettled in the new house, unsettled in the new job etc.
On top of that, the wife lost her job, so she's currently looking for a new one.
So I just need to get used to it all I think? It's a horrible feeling, being so disoriented all the time. So hopefully 2026 will settle me down a bit?
Otherwise it's going to be a bloody rollercoaster.

I keep trying to cut my hours but the Boss isn't having any of it Id like a 9 day fortnight though.
No big events this year for a change so I,m doing a mini Bike tour in July on my own - and maybe to see my wife's parents in September.
This year is the year I do some decorating and finally sort out stuff left over from our move 2 years ago (maybe).

A thought on weddings and those considering them (myself included).
And that is women do not seem keen on marrying men who are sort of indifferent about the whole thing. I think they want to marry a man who really wants to marry them.

I'm also in the may get married group.
Maybe, perhaps, we'll see, there's a good chance, possibly . . .

I married one who really wanted to get married. Despite being indifferent myself (to marriage, not him), so I think there's often a compromise. Meh.MyLittleStudPony wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 1:23 pm A thought on weddings and those considering them (myself included).

Congrats Gregor
Good luck Cheb-hope it all works out the way you want.
I hope Iccy makes a good recovery too.
Me:
New Job (about to start)
New bike (I'm keeping. the Indian but adding to the stable)
Same wife (I adore her)
Kids are all growing up
Not sure what the year is destined to bring me. I bring my own destiny etc- but so long as that Orange balloon is in power, I remain more anxious about the global positioning of 'hope'

Re: What is 2026 destined to bring or hoping/planning to bring anyway ?
Hopefully a new garage roof and replace my wife's VW Eos with another VW Eos will be as exciting as it gets, I can do without any drama. Other than that, lot's of motorcycle riding and I've got a track day booked.
