I can't think of any real reason we'd not continue with this place ?
It's been an interesting year again here, some good, some bad, a couple of outages and issues... but mostly, it ticks along quite nicely i think
Is it breaking even for you?weeksy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:06 am Might as well use this one as any other thread. We're coming up to renewal time for web hosting and certificate stuff in the next 30 days according to our ISP.

It's all good mate. Even if it does or doesnt, it doesn't really matter.wheelnut wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:13 amIs it breaking even for you?weeksy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:06 am Might as well use this one as any other thread. Given how just about everything else seems to be trending towards unusable due to advertising (including Instagram and Faceberk), coming in here is like a breath of fresh air - sometimes.

It's got to the point where, if I click a link and there's no option to 'decline cookies', I don't continue.
We're the last bulwark against rampant enshitification.![]()
Dinosaurs existed for between 165 and 180 million years. It's longer than these puny bipeds will.Rockburner wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:52 amCount Steer wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:40 amGiven how just about everything else seems to be trending towards unusable due to advertising (including Instagram and Faceberk), coming in here is like a breath of fresh air - sometimes.![]()

I have to admit I do the same with cookies and registration forms etc etc.
But then.... we're dinosaurs.
I think it matters to a fair few of us. You've chosen to provide a service to us that we enjoy using that sometimes causes you aggro, I think it's important that you're at least not out of pocket for it.weeksy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:17 am

Thank you... but honestly we're OK currently. These things change/flow/fluctuate at times with renewal of services, updates, troubleshooting and problems. But at the moment it's been pretty quiet and whilst the subscriptions have massively fallen off a cliff compared to 2 years ago, it's still far from a disaster.wheelnut wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 9:26 amI think it matters to a fair few of us. Would we want to do a "recruitment drive"? IE point new people (bikers, obvs!) that we might meet to the forum?weeksy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 9:32 amThank you... but honestly we're OK currently. I'm honestly not convinced it'd do a lot mate, as you say FB, Insta, TikTok are how people see the world. But they forget that forums have knowledge long forgotten by 'instant' media. That's the appeal of these places for me in terms of posting/knowledge.Rockburner wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 9:58 amWould we want to do a "recruitment drive"? I always feel like more regular users make for a better forum for everyone, but it certainly takes a certain type of mentality to stick it out here (it always has), and you've now also got the obstruction where online users aren't as used to the way forums work (as opposed to the instance dopamine hit from FB/Insta/X etc)
I need to check if the styles have been updated by their author or if I will need to update them myself before I do anything else.weeksy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:17 am I do need to get some updates done by our techie @HiFi Kabin and will contact him to do so
Would it be worth hiring the coach?
Outside of social media,is there even anywhere left like this?
Lots of guys have left is the simple answer, we’re quite a small but chatty groupSkub wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 11:55 amOutside of social media,is there even anywhere left like this?
Maybe we've been so long out of fashion that soon we'll be back in fashion.![]()
I can't think why subs have fallen off, unless it's just an oversight. I suppose there's no big red light telling us the power is going off if we don't stump up,so it's easy to forget.
That's exactly how I see it too, an incredibly useful, constantly growing repository of genuine knowledge and information (have you ever tried to search for information within a FB group??).weeksy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 10:01 amI'm honestly not convinced it'd do a lot mate, as you say FB, Insta, TikTok are how people see the world. But i don't expect many people to get it sadly..
I see this place as something that will die off as we die off in the future... but until then, it should fare pretty well.
I don't have an FB account and never will.Rockburner wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 3:54 pm (have you ever tried to search for information within a FB group??).
Maybe my account uses some weird email address I've long forgotten, or maybe I just forgot about it 3 years ago
