They make a jolly nice sound on an open pipe. I think they're slightly more desirable than the later v-tech that replaced it, by VFR aficionados.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
A few months back I was weighing up getting a late model 750 or early pre V-Tec FI 800 as I've never ridden the VFR750/VFR800.
Lots of times I see a YT video or something on social media praising the gear driven V4 & often saying that they're the best bikes ever produced. If they weren't so heavy I'd have probably bought one to see what all the praise is about,I still might at some point, but they're a bit big & heavy for the roads I prefer riding.
These days there's some cracking bikes out there for less than 3K

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
I was listening to a podcast the other year with a well known retired racer & team manager who when assked about getting some good results on the RF600 'Teapot' replied that it went well with a GSXR 750 motor fitted,& even better with a overbored GSXR 750 motor in there!

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Think the vfr 750 was used in sidecar racing. I was gonna say, I bet they're heavy compared to modern stuff, but then modern stuff is all heavy.

IIRC the first three generations (maybe even the later ones) of VFR were loss leaders for Honda.
They lost money on every bike sold, but they needed to do it to get back the lost reputation from the VF chocolate cam debacle.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Everything you've heard about the VFRs is true. The motor is an absolute peach, even 40 years after their introduction. But they are a lardy old lump. My FJ (1988) weighs at least 220kg fully fuelled, but at least the weight is carried reasonably low down. It's for that reason alone that I'll be selling mine this year. It has lots of add on goodies (PVM forged ali front wheel, RC30 forks, Ohlins shock, Brembo front calipers, CBR600F3 rear wheel) but it's just getting too lardy for my feeble frame. But I will miss its creamy smooth but growly power delivery, the cam gear whine and the way it effortlessly covers distance.Bustaspoke wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 8:41 pm A few months back I was weighing up getting a late model 750 or early pre V-Tec FI 800 as I've never ridden the VFR750/VFR800.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
All the RC24 models (1986-1989 FG to FK) were either loss leaders or not far off. I bought a 1989 FK brand new for £4200, but the price jumped to £6k+ when the RC36 (single sided swingarm) was introduced for the 1990 MY. By the time the 2nd generation RC36 was introduced in 1994 they were pushing £8k, so Honda weren't slow in capitalising on their 'loss leaders'...KungFooBob wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 9:03 pm IIRC the first three generations (maybe even the later ones) of VFR were loss leaders for Honda.

Just seen this. Never seen them before.
A Honda 650 likely to be more bullet-proof than a KTM.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
You don't see them very often because no one bought them.
Too heavy and under powered to be competitive in that market segment, people bought DRZs and XT660s motards instead.
