Wet weather welding
Wet weather welding
Hello
Any welders on here?
Need to put some patches in my van for the mot. Can all be accessed from inside the van but still be on my drive in the rain. Any issues using a mig with flux core in damp or wet conditions?
I'll be doing my utmost to keep the extension lead dry and not getting myself or the kit wet.
Thanks

Re: Wet weather welding
I'm no welder but I thought (one of) the main reasons for using fluxed anything was specifically for use in horrible conditions.

I have gasless MIG and used it more than once in the rain. As long as your plug or extension plug n socket is also in the van you will not kill any kittens.

Re: Wet weather welding
As long as you, your kit and the stuff you’re trying to weld is dry, you should be ok.

Took advantage of the sunny weather to have a crack at the patching. My welder only goes as low as 50amps. Spent the afternoon blowing holes in wheel tubs.
Going to have to buy another lower amp welder for sheet metal.

Picked up a Clark 20 to 120 amp welder last week. Took a lot of experimenting with patches and the welder lo get the settings right but passed the mot.
Put the seam sealer on too soon and dissolved the primer. Had to bare metal it and start again, finally finished at 10pm on Wednesday in the cold and rain.
