Re: Strange (motorcycle) urges...
Looking through this thread and it's random shit box perversions has made me feel better about the fact that at least I only like topboxes. Weirdos.

Re: Strange (motorcycle) urges...
This weeks strange urge is mostly a first generation Aprilia Tuono 1000.
I much prefer the look of them over the 2nd generation.
The prices are all over the shop, it seems they're actually going up in price, the Gen 2's are getting cheaper than the Gen 1's.

Re: Strange (motorcycle) urges...
Griff Wooley of AP Workshops actually prefers the Gen 1 V60 Aprilias, due to their more raw character. He explained it to me that the the Gen 1 ECU only sampled the crank rotation once every 360 degrees, whereas the Gen 2 Ecu was more advanced, fasterer etc. and sampled four times every crank rotation, which made the bike feel smoother and more refined. Or something like that - can't remember exact figures...

I had a gen 1 which was bloody brilliant. I do occasionally wish I'd tried a gen 2.KungFooBob wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 9:51 pm This weeks strange urge is mostly a first generation Aprilia Tuono 1000.

As for strange urges, I already ride a 750cc scooter (Xadv) with a topbox!!! Can you get much strangerer?

I prefer the Gen 2 Tuono looks, if they are cheaper then even better. I wonder if the old clock resetting thing with the early Gen 2s effects price as well?

Re: Strange (motorcycle) urges...
Gen 2s also had a recall for the swingarm and the suspension dogbone/triangles as I recall. Any prospective purchaser should do due diligence on those points.

Re: ‘prillers… I’ve had Gen2’s and Gen1’s, and I know Griff @ AP well (what that man doesn’t know about them, would fit on the back of a pin head!)…
The Gen1 is more raw, more exciting… The Gen2 is more refined, easier to ride, more powerful and more economical but not as raw hence frowned upon by the Gen1 purists…
Both are good bikes but not without their faults.
I was lucky to own number 122/200 of what was Genesis for the super naked bikes… The original Tuono Ltd… At times I wish I hadn’t sold it, but I was becoming increasingly precious about using an appreciating asset and decided it was better off in someone else’s collection who’d appreciate it more. Did enjoy my time with it though.
I’ve spent years looking for a similar feeling that the Gen1 Tuono’s give of a raw, grunty muscle bike with decent handling but very much a priority for stability over turn in speed, and an attitude to match… I finally found it, oddly enough, last year in the form of the Indian FTR 1200… Which then quickly became my strange motorcycle urge, and is now probably my favourite ever bike!

Love that FTR. I was always too scared that if I took one for a test ride that I'd want to buy one!!
Maybe a scratch that i itch at some stage. I really like them.

Since I bought mine, they discontinued it and values have gone upwards, cos they aren't replacing it either!Nordboy wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 12:37 pm Love that FTR. I was always too scared that if I took one for a test ride that I'd want to buy one!!

I dismissed it as a "bloody cool looking, style over substance" bike some time ago... It was only a chance encounter and some spare time a few years ago, that I was given the keys to one for a short while... And ever since, I hadn't stopped fantasising about one in my garage!
So I finally made it happen last year... My only regret is I didn't do it sooner, cos it's absolutely the best "feel good" bike I have ever ridden!

Re: Strange (motorcycle) urges...
From speaking to the Indian guys @ NEC show, it was a combination of poor sales and the engine wouldn't meet Euro 5+ regs (so would have needed a redesign, not just adapting) that killed it off...

Re: Strange (motorcycle) urges...
I've decided (for today anyway) not to buy another motorcycle, I bought a grab rail for my Gold Star instead to try and sate my bike buying appetite.

I'd be equally as interested to know if they do a version without those truly offensive wings.

We can answer that.
It's well out of shot, several metres behind the bike
Even bland can be a type of character

Re: Strange (motorcycle) urges...
The wife says it's 'fugly' and a horrible colour and I'm only allowed to buy it when I book the boiler in for replacing with a combi.
