A mate has just bought one of those BMWs, I might have been interested but Tesla are doing mega deals to get a big footprint in the area, so it was a no brainer.

Was going to get an ID4 as wife likes SUV type cars, but then started reading the horror stories!
Still hoping they do this salary sacrifice scheme through work where the only option is a Tesla, at the end of the day she doesnt have to drive it as she still wants to keep her Ovlov.

I think the Taycan is ok but it's absolutely nothing like a 911, which is fine if you're ok with it, but I'd rather have a 911 and then an EV that behaves like an EV and not something in-between.

The best version I tried was the Taycan Cross Turbo S (if I got the name the right way around) the one that looks like a bread van.

There was a limited edition Super Turbo S, or something equally as extremely named, for sale that started off at IIRC 1.5m AED and then dropped all the way down to 750k AED, at which point we were very tempted to buy it, but it was ridiculous really, it had over 1000bhp, but it was a 4-door saloon and no back seats, so it was stupid as an actual car, but just an exercise to say "Look at what we can do", the tech on it was all amazing next level stuff.

It got bought by someone and now it's back up for sale for about 650k with a out 3,000 kms on it.

That would have been cool, but I don't understand the design brief - "Let's make a four door, with no back seats and just a sheet of carbon so it renders the rear doors useless.

I don't think anyone thinks a Taycan is the best Porsche, but for some people it's defo the best EV

The UK (and maybe the EU as it's a UNECE apparently ) limits 'come to me' to 6 meters, is it worth it for that?

That still useful for getting it out of a really tight parking spot so you can open the doors to get in.

Aye I can see how that'd be a benefit if some dozy twonk has parked next to you, but for everything else using it to get it 6 meters closer seems a bit gimmicky / lazy

The first gen seemed to be plagued by dead battery cells. They worked out a repair method that didn't involve replacing the whole battery if it was just a couple of cells.

If you have bigger battery problems Porsche have run out of original Gen 1 battery packs, they now make a kit to retrofit the Gen 2 battery to the Gen 1 cars.

Other than that I think most of them get aircon compressor failure at some point.

You'd only buy one with some kind of manufacturer warranty... and if the car has a warranty it's actually quite affordable to keep extending it.

If you buy a 2nd hand car without an approved used warranty, getting one is very difficult.

And I think that you've summed up ev Very well, and as I don't really get much of a thrill from driving I find it a very chilled and quiet way of getting from a to b. The fact that I get the financial equivalent to about 270mpg makes my wallet very happy.

We’ve got two, a Nissan leaf and an ID buzz van. The leaf is the cheap to run transport. Cost £11k at one year old, does 150 miles on a charge at 1.5p a mile. It’s a tool for a job but I do quite like driving it, surprisingly quick and handles the back roads here great. The ID buzz van is similar but much faster and great for carrying stuff, has a better range but is a bit more expensive at 2p a mile. 99% of charging done overnight at home.
Working in the EV industry previously I wasn’t bothered, but then I void my get a 1 year old one for £11k and the lease deals weren’t cheap enough. I still have my e class diesel which is a very comfy refined car but after driving either of the ev’s it feels like an antique.

I quite fancy a Dacia Spring (I think that's it) but up in resort it wasn't practical and down here, still no where to plug it in!

But if I change the Skoda and can sort out the charging, I'd be quite interested in one of the smaller ones as I rarely do long distance - and in France the set up for charging is really good, so getting to the channel wouldn't be a major issue! No idea what it's like in the UK though

I have my Mini JCW, but I'm possibly about to apply for a job that means a commute of an hour each way. So, considering chopping ion the mini and buying a used Model 3 AWD LR. So we'd be a two EV family.

I'm not sure at the moment how that would work as I'm guessing, especially in the winter, that I'd be home charging the Tesla most evenings as it's 100-120 miles around trip, depending on which route I'd take. I know I could push it to every other day, but then not sure I could put enough charge back into it? But that's the current thinking, that and do i really want to add two hours onto my working day 4 days a week of course?

The scales are a bit different.

I get 6 hours of cheap rate over night and the car charges at 7kwh, and can give the car approx 50% charge for that 42kw.

Solar systems are geared to give your household say approx 5 to 10 KW a day which can cover a fair chunk of what you use on a good day, especially with batteries. But it's not on the right scale to charge a car if you need something like 30kw a day to commute.

That's a possibility I guess? Certainly for the Ford as she won't be doing the miles that I would. It would just take a little planning I suppose. I've just done the run, short route and longer route and used 42% of the explorers battery. Not sure if a Tesla M3 is more efficient? Maybe.

I'm on octopus so only get cheap rate charging between 11.30-06.00. Don't have any solar.

Even if I had to do a bit of a tesla supercharging once a week, that wouldn't be the end of the world, still a crap load cheaper than running my JCW every day I'm sure.
