The way it was explained to me is that that level of prediction from an advanced technology intelligence should worry us a lot.

The CAB and some charities offer a free will service. In England, I'm not sure about Scotland, the laws are different.

What I always come back to is, if this IS a simulation, why isn't it simulating something way cooler?
Why is it simulating IT nerds, Dubai-expats, and folk who don't even ride bikes any more, grouching on a forum?

My life is mainly not working, continental strength lager, a Telegram channel which sells all the naughty stuff, and PAWGs. Also walking to the Co-op for shopping most days.
Re: Are we in a simulation?
Scientists have now arrived at the conclusion that it is not possible for human DNA to exist without some sort of outside intelligent interference.
About 200,000 years ago we mutated from other species and humans were born, they can see the stitched DNA and it’s impossible for it to happen naturally. They can actually see the ends of two parts and where they were joined to create a mutation, it exists nowhere else and cannot happen accidentally.
There is currently no explanation, just this discovery.
So maybe not a simulation but an experiment by a more advanced intelligence. If time is not a factor for ‘them’ then they could be sitting and watching in a cosmic laboratory just for shits and giggles.

"currently no explanation" all feels a bit TimeTeam where Tony Robinson picks up a rock and then an artist sketches a drawing of what this "definte prehistoric helicopter" may have looked like.IccyV2 wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 1:37 am Scientists have now arrived at the conclusion that it is not possible for human DNA to exist without some sort of outside intelligent interference.

I always thought the evolutionary process through the australopithecines and homo species was pretty unremarkable in terms of the genetic changes.

I like the 'it exists nowhere else' bit.
The universe is big, like really, really big.
In an infinite universe unlikely things become almost certainties, somewhere, at some time.
I guess they mean 'we haven't seen it before'.

Re: Are we in a simulation?
I think the point was they understand how it works now and it's impossible to do without some method that we haven't discovered yet, and because they know how it works they know that it can't happen by accident in nature. In layman's terms I understood that it was like two bottles of milk sitting in the fridge side by side and somehow unscrewing their own tops and mixing the milk, all on their own - it's just not possible - but they can demonstrate that it happened, they just don't know who did it.Count Steer wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 12:08 pm I like the 'it exists nowhere else' bit.

IIRC it's part of a fairly well understood evolutionary process.Buckaroo wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 2:19 pmWhat about Homo Habilis? I guess they mean 'we haven't seen it before'.
…so nobody queries the conclusion, or any other bollox that follows.
You’ve seen it before:
“Research has shown that…”
“Extensive investigation by the renowned Professor Dr Archimedes Principle has found that…”
“It is generally accepted that…”
You already know that it’s false.
